i got a bit carried away in the sunshine last saturday and got pulled by an unmarked police bike doing 62 in a 30. what am i likely to be looking at points, ban? etc... and do police bikes carry any sort of speed measuring device? oh and one last question are bikes and cars treated the same for speeding offences as imo a bike is less of a danger to cause injury than a car as it is smaller, lighter and more nimble therefore not as much risk?

i know im a dick head and i feel bad enough as it is so please no safety talk Rolling Eyes

Sorry but that will be a ban for sure.

Seek good legal advice.

The summons can take up to six months after the caution so you may have a long, uncomfortable wait ahead.

I think it's 30mph over the speed limit means a definite ban.

60 in a 30, 100 in a 70 etc.

Afraid its time to bend over and take one for the team.

Does suck though as we all done it from time to time.

Incidently a unmarked police bike, how do they pull you? like where are the flashy blues? I imagine they have a siren tucked away somewhere (I seen them hidden in grills and on dashs of unmarked cars...)

there were flashy lights near the headlights somewhere and a siren, he said he followed me from town about a mile away and struggled to keep up lol, he also said i was a good rider which should have made me feel good but it didnt lol. i was watchin one of those cop programmes on telly a few months back and this guy was doin exess of 100mph on the motorway on a blackbird i think and the copper who pulled hin told him to slow it down and then let him go wtf and that was on national telly.

No disrespect to yourself, but from a neutral point of view, there are some clear differences there:

Arrow You were doing double the speed limit, I would assume if he'd been doing 140, there'd have been consequences.

Arrow You, presumably, were in a built up area, he was on a motorway; 60mph in a built up area is rarely, if ever, safe, although most people with some road experience and a bit of common sense would agree that 100mph on a motorway is a completely different proposition.

Arrow If he was riding a blackbird, I can only assume he had a full license, and had been riding a while to be able to afford the insurance, whereas you have only a c.b.t. under your belt, so it's possible to assume that the copper in your case felt you didn't have the appropriate training or experience to accurately assess how safe travelling at 60mph in a 30 zone was.

Again, I'm not judging your actions, merely pointing out the possible reasons for differing levels of discretion used.

People very rarely just walk across the road on a motorway though plus average speeds are 70+mph. They would have takin into the risk of what would have happened if you had hit someone.

when you said are cars and bikes treated the same way i would say yes.if your going at that speed, all it needs is someone to walk out from nowhere or something on the road and your off balance.Thats my opinion Rolling Eyes

+1 to what's been said. 62 in a 30 is a bit thick.

I hope they aren't too harsh you and learn your lesson. Thumbs Up

apparantly if their speed detection system has not been calibrated THAT MORNING, and they cant prove it has, then they cant do anything.

Well at least your only going to lose your cbt, not a full licence on the plus side.

Unlikely to disqualify you because there is no real point as you are on a provisional licence. I'd suggest you are most likely looking at 6 points which will sit on your licence for 4 years

It's going to put your insurance up and it is also going to mean that your licence will be revoked if you get any points, if when you pass a full driving entitlement, you are covered by the New Driver Act.

I think that on a provisional the points limit is 6 anyway (or thats what I think it is)

So that will be the provisional gone anyway. Sad

So was this 30 a majorly built up area, as in a town/city or some village in the countryside along a higher speed limit road?

you can have 12 points on a provisional, just no more than 6 once youve passed during your probation period

A provisional has a full 12 points.

The New Driver Act with its 6 point licence revocation limit only kicks in after passing your first full licence entitlement - whether that be Class B or Class A.
