This guy on a police programme a couple of weeks back said that 'If a bike show signs that it is not willing or is not going to stop for police, then we are not allowed to chase'

Is this true?

(For informational purposes only seeing as it doesn't really affect me on my bike)

Any interesting police chase stories also welcome Thumbs Up

Im not to sure on that one as ive seen quite a few bike chases on tv. I know that at a certain speed/it gets to dangerous they call off the chase. Also if someone isnt wearing a helmet im sure they call off the chase then but they would probably just call in the chopper.

Pretty sure they can persue no problem. But if an officer thinks the chase is causing danger to pretty much anyone then they'll call it off.

If you lob your lid off I bet they abandon the chase quickly.

I'd guess the tactic would be to get the chopper out and wait for you to run out of a fuel while following from a safe distance.

Going the wrong way up a motorway or dual carriageway is also a reason for them to call it off, although you'd have to have a bit of a deathwish to try it!
And yeah, once the chopper is out you're pretty much fookered no matter what you do.

AFAIK the chopper can only be in the air for half hour or so stints before having to come back for fuel, even the most un-eco friendly bike must be able to out do that!

Endurance of 2 hrs 30 mins

Still outdoable though!

They can chase unless your not wearing a helmet, theres a few people on here who have been chased so its certainly allowed.

It certainly is, and remember that time includes getting to the scene and getting back which will take a chunk of that time too. Most people trying to escape where a helo is involved dont last that long because they crash out or give up. If you go for 2 hours at 70mph it doesnt take much to realise that you will have crossed a couple of counties and so your probably going to have a different chopper chasing your anyway meaning your bike will run out of fuel before the helo's! If you want to escape, its got to be before the copter gets involved, and thats much more doable on a fast sportsbike vs a cop car.

hmmm dont think they can persue you through residential areas IF YOU make of at high speeds

if your on a motorway/dual they will chase your ass all day long

BUT DONT forget they will persue you and stop persuing when that police helicopter is over head and that will just watch you and direct officers to were ever you decide to stop or go

If it's the same programme I saw, then it was the Humberside Police that wouldn't chase a bike because it was too dangerous.

Or come to Scotland, north of the central belt there are hardly any traffic cars and no choppers that I can think of.

If you were stupid enough to run on a bike registered to you at your own address then you need locking-up for your own safety Wink

So for I-A-R to say a few on here have been chased am I right so assume that either we have some dickheads on the forum (say it isn't so), they were lying or had previously stolen the bike on which they took flight ?

I know where my money sits Very Happy

If they were chasing you on a motorway or dual carriageway then wouldn't they just do a rolling road block up ahead.

Pretty sure most people won't want to filter at high speed.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

Well considering that they take off from them...... Or at least they do in Leeds.
To work your scam, you would have to follow the filght path, and even then they could track you from a safe distance thanks to the cams onboard. Also have seen them right under planes comming into land at LBA while they have been searching the river for peeps.

As to car park, you certainly would lose the bike and all your gear you would have to dump... And there is a dammed good chance that they would still catch you anyway.
