I'm not working next week so I was thinking about going up to Scotland for a few days.

Before I do any research via google/best biking roads etc can anyone recommend any good routes or campsites?

Cheers

Dave

Same thing everyone else says - go as north and as west as possible.

I took a run through the 'Geopark' couple of weeks ago and it was rather lovely (if a bit of a stretch on fuel if you're not careful).

Anything west of Inverness is fair game. Skye, Torridon, Ullapool, south a bit around Fort William, Rannoch Moor... you can't really go far wrong if you stay on the left hand side.

I don't really 'do' camping so the only one I know is the Sligachan campsite on Skye.

Well as you're setting off from a similar location to me have a look at the trip we did. Looking to go back this year and take an extra day - 3 days was a bit of a rush and not quite enough time to do the road from Skye to Ullapool, but otherwise it was a great trip Smile

Cheers for the links, not had chance for a proper research yet, will be having a good browse as I'm on nights the next two days. I'm looking at camping near Inverness for a couple of days so I reckon I would easily be able to get to most places from there (and back) in a day. So far I reckon John o' Groats/Dunnet Head on one day going up the A9 coast road. Maybe Ullapool on one of the other days. Need to have a good search tonight.

Cheers for your suggestions so far.

Dave

Basing yourself around Inverness works, that's what I've done the last couple of times I've been up.

JoG won't take you a day from Inverness, not even close. Head up there then keep going west (follow the usefully signposted tourist route) and it'll take your right over the top of Scotland, and you can end up in Ullapool then cut back across to Inverness. That's a good day out (just watch the fuel).

With the light evenings, you can do the Skye, Ullapool, Gairloch, Torridon side of things in a (long) day as well.

Been planning the route in mapsource, annoyingly I can only import them to google earth and not maps. Probably going to set off tomorrow morning, or maybe Monday.

The east coast of scotland i find boring so i would not bother too much about seeing that, Orkney is nice. I live in Ullapool m8 would recommend going north up to Durness or south down to skye.
