Can't really trust my GPS/phone unit not to die on me - what maps should I be looking at taking with me around europe?

I'll be mainly headed east.

Yes it is that one, its got most of the capital cities and major cities in it and GREEN routes which are good for riding on , though they are not 100% accurate the pyranees are noted to be all non green but you go out there and its fantastic..

Also road names tend to change regularly too so things can be hard to find, so for cities you need to viist get a closer in map. Thumbs Up

I use the AA maps, they are clear, easy to read in a map case on my tank, although they don't have small places which can cause problems. This year I have a tomtom to use in tandem.
I am planning the trip on the maps and will transfer that onto my tomtom and use both on the road.

up-date I have bought a motrax strong map (waterproof) and a phillips one the easy read map https://www.philips-maps.co.uk/index.php?nID=product&id=11&ISBN=9780540090570
as it has greater detail if you do not mind putting it into the panniers.
