In need of some advice...

Hi all,

Basically, I have been left some money and it is currently in a Sterling Investment Bond in a Trust fund and I am not allowed to touch it until I am 25.

In the "Deed of Variation", it states that I may be able to extract some of these funds for educational and transport purposes.

Now, I contacted the solicitor firm about 4 weeks ago via email stating that I would like to release some of these funds for transport purposes; this will allow me to get to and from work with ease and will broaden my horizons (blablabla). I have told them how much I want and they are yet to come back to me with a simple decision.

I have been in contact with "the admin guy" quite a few times to try and speed up the process and failed miserably with his usual emails saying a date for the decision to be expected and then letting me down again by saying they need to discuss a few more points before they come to a final decision; also for some reason it seems I'm not allowed to contact the trustees directly.

This is incredibly frustrating and I feel that an entire month is a ridiculous amount of time to wait for a simple decision. I have contacted "the admin guy" via telephone also (the typical chase) and he seems to shoe me off each time.

Is this time period realistic?
What are my rights? Can I do anything at all to speed up the process?

Whether I receive the amount I have asked for or not is entirely down to the trustees decision so I was thinking that if I persist in sending emails and essentially pissing them off; they then might turn around and tell me where to go?

Any thoughts/suggestions/advice would be hugely appreciated and I apologise for the essay!

Yes, the idea of the money being entrusted is so that it is under control by people who are responsible, it's their job to decide whether a situation arises that should override the original wishes of whoever made the trust in the first place.

Sounds like you're asking for money for a new bike presumably and to pester will probably not help your cause, the trustees could be anyone but are likely to be people who know you, or could be solicitors themselves, depends on the circumstances of the trust.

As the money is in a trust fund and the terms are your not to have it till your 25 sounds to me like you have no rights at all over it until that time.

There is a section in the Will that states that I can have some of it out before I am 25 for transport and/or educational purposes.

So I have taken advantage of that; surely thats fine? Is all they need to do is make a decision on what amount to let me have.

In anything financial/legal, decisions take a good while. A month is not unreasonable, 6 months would be pushing it.
