Ok as the title says, i've got a bruise on the front of my leg and it wont go!

I got it back last November while i was at Playzone, so it's nearly 8 months ago and although it's not a fresh bruise it is still there and still hurts! Confused

I did get other bruises and scrapes but they all healed quite quickly.

Help!

+1 for Arnica, I used the oil version back when I was getting battered shins every Sunday.

Another for Arnica but 8 months is an awfully long time for a bruise. Maybe you should get it checked out.

Comfrey oil is a traditional remedy for bruises.

My long post was fried by the server,

a chinese oil called (phonetic) tet dah chau, every chinese family has a bottle, you buy it rub it in and beat the wound and scream in pain , it won't work if you just rub it in though. You can't just rub it in I tried it myself , my bruises didn't go , my dad flew back in he did it and hurt me loads , the bruise went away after 3 treatments. I'm sure CraigT19 will be happy to indugle in some light S&M.

Or the hot egg approach, boil an egg 2 even , peel one , stick it in a flannel push hard against the bruise.

I have no idea why they work but I think that both methods destroy the clotted blood internally one via heat the other via beating force. Just hope the blood clots don't go to your brain or your heart though that happens you be dead.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I think it's taking so long to go because it's on my shin, so maybe it's just really deep.

I'll buy some Arnica cream/ oil tomorrow, and if that doesn't work the Comfrey oil, and as a last resort the chinese torture method. S&M or not that doesn't sound like much fun Laughing

NC30, i would go to the doctors but they're useless. Everything is in my head and nothing is ever wrong with me, so i've given up going Rolling Eyes I find i get things cured much quicker if i just self medicate. How are you btw? Haven't spoken to you in ages Very Happy

Agreed, doctors are for the most part totally useless, and even worse around here as none of them are English so are unable to really converse in any way just type the symptoms into their computer and print off the recommended prescription. I could go in with an aching knee that just needs a couple of days rest and I gaurantee I'd end up being prescribed anti-inflammatories, painkillers, antibiotics or something.

Just figure out what's wrong with yourself and if you decide you need something that only the doctor can give you then is the time to go IMO, unless of course you are really ill, then you're probably better off going to hospital anyway as the doctor will only send you there.

A bruise for 8months is a bit odd, unless you keep hitting it, maybe you did some damage to the bone if you hit it hard, but if it's not causing a real problem the doc probably won't help.

I put a hole in my shin with the footpeg of a dirtbike a couple of years ago hurt a lot. Healed up but was a red patch for god knows how long, it's gone now, I just think shin bruises take a while to clear.

I wont go to hospital either if i can help it. I've been three times in 8 years and they were useless each time.

I dislocated my knee, knocked it back into place as i fell and hit the ground, and was in excrutiating pain so my mum took me to A&E. They told me my knee never dislocated and that i must have just twisted it funny, and sent me home. A year of constant pain and an x-ray later (that they should have took the night i did it) revealed it did dislocate, my muscles were all ripped and my knee cap was cracked!!

The 2nd time i got some glass stuck in my heel. They wouldn't remove it. They sent me home and told me to soak it in hot water nightly until it pushed itself out?! Shocked After 2 days of more pain and limping i cut away a chunk of my heel and pulled it out myself. Took hours becuase it hurt so much.

The last time was when i crashed my bike last November. I went to A&E, they poked me a bit and said your fine. I couldn't move my hands and my left thumb reduced me to tears when he touched it but they wouldn't x-ray me. I'm still getting problems now with my left hand, i've been to the docs and they're like 'give it time to heal on its own'. It's been 8 months already and it's just getting worse?!

Bah!! Evil or Very Mad

Only been to hospital to get fixed once when I broke my foot, was pretty certain it had broken due to the intense immediate pain and inability to walk. Went to hospital, sat for a few hours, was made to walk around the entire ground floor of the hospital THREE times without any crutches or anything on my broken foot, 2 of these times after it had been x-rayed and confirmed broken. Eventually got out about 6hours later in a plaster.

When I get bruised doing Kung Fu, my Sifu just tells me to rub it.

"Keep rubbing it" He says. "Just keep rubbing it, and it will go. You can put some of that chinese stuff on it if you like, but its the rubbing that fixes it!"

Can't say that I've ever had a bruise that lasted more than a few days, but its worth a go anyway!

After my crash I had quite bad bruising round my eyes and nose which lasted a couple of months, Savlon cream is bloody good stuff and after a week-ish of use it was reduced a fair bit. To help 'internally' Orange juice or similar for the Vit C helps a bit too.

No offence ment here to the self doctors here.
But you dont have anywhere near as much bearing on what to do.
For all you know there could be a clot in leggys leg, obviously a blood clot forming isnt good. usually needs a opp if i remember rightly.

I remember going in for my arm, got transferred hospitals but i had a coloured man look at my wrist, and i was slightly edgy trying to put this as unracist as possible, but he did a fantastic job, and hes a credit to the health service.

If your not trying to be racist, why not just say a doctor or whatever, no need to say he was coloured. Rolling Eyes

Self doctoring never hurt anyone that I know of, next time you got sumthin shit to say, go elsewhere, eh mate? Cheers muchly... Wink

I know shit, oh ye as your the be all and end all of knowledge arnt you, she was asking for help, but in this kind of situation of a 8 month bruise you dont think youd advise her to go see a doc about it. I ment that him being coloured had some impact on how i respected him as a doctor, as he was much better, much more polite and the like that previous english doctors.

No, actually, I'm not. Never said I was but simply that the OP was asking for help and was given it, if she doesn't think it sensible/appropriate to consult a medical professional before the vast BCF audience than that aint my look out Wink .

So yeah, as said.. I found Savlon and stuff rich in Vit C helped me loads. Thumbs Up

Very true tutton, people who don't know what they're talking about shouldn't offer medical advise, so shhh. Because to suggest a bruise on her shin she's had 8 months from a bang could be a blood clot that needs medical attention is bordering on fuckmuppetry.
