I pick up my new bike on Monday (yay!) and I’ve arranged my insurance to be changed. I received the new cover note today and I noticed that the change is affective from 00:01hrs Monday. I have to ride my old bike to the dealers Monday morning.
Does anyone know if insurance companies will still cover bikes for x number of days after you change a policy?
Or do I just have to find time at work over the weekend to phone them to check?
Thanks
J

May have to give them a ring. When i had to get a courtesy car when my was getting fixed after a transit trashed it, i had to put it on my policy (being 20 at the time)

I dropped off my car at the garage, called them and gave them the details of the new car. They changed it over instantly, even faxed me a cover note!

Hope it all works out.

Don't quote me on this, but from past experience, an insurance company will cover you for 7 days after the policy ends.

This is to allow people to drive it to garages, new owners address etc after you have switched policy to your new vehicle.

Hope this helps

Ring 'em on Monday morning and get them to change the time your cover changes.

Check. You know full well that if you have an accident on the way there (sods law says you will), the insurance company will use anything they can to avoid paying out.
When it comes down to it, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Definitely phone them to check. Insurance companies will always try to squirm out of paying. Besides, you have told them that you will be riding a different bike, so they won't expect you to be on the original one...

I tried to call them today, but they don’t do Sundays.
Gonna call them tomorrow morning. Like PsychoHippy says it'll be tomorrow that I have an accident! Mum's pulled her car up so close to the garage the door wont open cus she’s paranoid that someone will nick it tonight!

I was wondering the same thing, but I'm guessing that with picking the bike up and the weather being as nice as it is here (he lives near me) then he's out and about trying it out! Laughing Wink
