Non-residue cleaner for fitting a tank pad

The instructions say i need to clean the area with a non residue cleaner, that wont damage the paint.

The tank is highly waxed and polished so its not a good surface to put it on at the moment.

What cleaner would do the job, am i right in saying white spirit would do the job ?
maybe even fairly liquid ?

Last time I fitted one I used white spirits. Did the job just fine.

If using white spirit, watch out for the nasty white residue marks it usually leaves when it dries out that is.

I always put a few coats of wax on BEFORE sticking em to the tank....why the hell would you want to remove the wax???

Maybe wax isnt the same as here,
wax as is ment by that statement is grease,
which will give it piss pour adhesion
