Well i finally did my hours assesment to find out how many days the instructor thought i would need before my test and he is confident on two (wish i were that confident at this stage).

Now bearing in mind i have ridden a yamaha sr125 for the last six months which is pretty much sit up straight, i rode a cb500 for the hour and the riding position left me with pain in my lower arms and back and quite a bit disorientated when going for the footpegs on setting off.

What i would really like to know is did or does anyone else have dificulty going from one style of riding position to another and will i get used to it over the two days before my test.

Perhaps you were a bit tense due to strange bike and being assesed.
I would have thought a cb would have had a simular riding position as the sr.
You should be Ok over the 2 days though

The cb was much more lean forward with the pegs much further back. you are probably right about the tension i know my arms were pretty stiff all the way round but couldnt find a way to loosen them up.

CB5s don`t have a sports riding position so i dunno how you can say you were leant forward.Probably nerves/tension as already said.

When i did DAS i found it a bit odd going from an rs125 to an upright 500 but after 10 minutes on a lesson i got used to it.After 3 days training it was just like riding any other bike...so i`ll think you`ll get used to it soon.
My DAS lessons were 4-5 hours each though so maybe you need longer than an 1 hour....but i think you`ll get that anyway. It`s only the assesment that`s an hour.

Relax Wink

The first time I ever rode a modern day sportsbike (my mates GSXR) when I still had my Thundercat, I wasn't sure of the experience at all... sitting so much higher up, further back, stretching like a monkey and your knees around your elbows, and then thinking "Nooo I'm gonna crash I'm gonna crash" everytime you tip over as it steered so quickly compared to the old girl. Don't worry, its normal to be a wee bit funny, you'll soon adapt.

I'm so used to the sports bike position now I have my own Gixer, that when I recently had a go of my old thundercat, it felt so wrong. Going from the cramped tucked in shape to something that felt like I was skydiving. Laughing

You'll soon adapt Thumbs Up

After being used to my DNA, the first time I rode my DT the bottom of my arms were aching because they were at a different angle. After about 50 mile I never noticed it again.

It's something you always notice when you switch to new machinery where your body tries to adapt to the different ergonomics. Your brain has spent quite some time acclimatising itself to a particular riding position that anything different feels alien - different steering geometry, bar angles & rake, footpeg position seat height etc - the SR is pretty low down and lightweight, so moving to the CB you feel that you have to muscle the bike about more. Give it 50-100 miles and your brain would have adapted to its new surroundings. You're going from custom/cruiser style to a commuter - at least you're not going onto anything with a fairing because you'd notice your symptoms more.
