No log book, no numberplate, can it be registered ok?

I am thinking of buying this bike, problem is it has no log book or number plate. I can get a receipt from the owner.

It does have the engine and frame numbers on it. Wondered if it could be registered ok.

If it is the right money then it will probably be okay. But you will probably have to jump through hoops with the DVLA to get it registered in the UK and might have to take it for a VIC check which you will have to pay for.

Don't forget to factor all of this trouble/cost into the viability factor of it all. Oh and if the bike is already located in the UK, why does the current owner not have any documentation for it. You don't want to buy it, register it and then find out it is actually an outstanding stolen vehicle etc.

Not being able to get a manufactured date could also lead to it becoming a Q plate, which will hike the ins cost.

Entirely possible, although likely to major issues if it turns out to be already registered.

You can get a certificate of age that the DVLA will accept for ageing purposes.

I had a problem in a similar situation about 7 years ago, even after getting a letter confirming the year the dvla wanted documentation of when,how and where the bike was imported. I was told that they wouldn't register it if they didn't have proof that the vehicle arrived here legally. Got pissed off with the hassle and broke it in the end.

You'll also have to prove that the VAT was paid when it was imported into the UK.

Thanks for the replies, I think it may be easier to get another frame with a V5, would probably end up stripping it anyway.

Although when I built my mini, I bought a nice shell.

Then I picked up a nice VIN plate and Log book registered 1969 which I put in a frame on my bedroom wall to look nice. Laughing
