Ok i was pulling away from my frikin gym and there was a pot hole like a crater on the mooon and i bounced of it and onto the side of the bike straight into a van, great 500 pounds excess onn a rental bike...
anyway i was just wondering if i could complain to anybody and get some kind of compensation for the repairs to the bike, because of the terrible state of the road and the hole in it...? thankyou

Yes. If it was on a public road contact your local council. They often, nowadays, have a 'pothole hotline' because these problems are so common. If it was on the gym's land contact the gym's head office (if it's a chain).

If either of them try to fob you off just say you'll go to the press - there are a ton of pothole complaints every day and you'll be opening a can of worms that the council/gym would rather keep closed.

Lucky the excess is £500.

Last bike I had was £1200 excess. Never ridden so slow.

Take it on the chin. You should have spotted the hole. Thumbs Up

Your call. Either way you will be shelling the money out to the garage that lent you the bike.

Best you can hope for is the council/gym pay you back.

I wouldn't go attempting a repair yourself or you may risk the garage billing you for the corrective work.

IMHO - the pot hole was there to be seen and you didn't see it. Take it on the chin.

the council will only give you compensation if you can prove that someone has complained about it already and the council have made no "reasonable" attemp to fix it

that is presuming that your idea of a pot hole meets the councils definiton of a pothole

and then if you get a tick for both of those then you will have to work your ass off and spend alot of time proving all this on paper in a way that the council can't argue

or you could just have the satisfaction of thrashing it till it blows up and still pay the same amount of excess Twisted Evil

Wouldnt attempt a self repair,
as it will have been thoroughly inspected before it was released to you.

Well next time you WILL remember to pay the ins waiver Wink

What was the damage to the van, and are they claiming off you.
Find out who is responsible for the road/hole and report it to them. Might be worth asking around the gym if anyone has reported it before.

Pop along to Fill That Hole and see if it has previously been reported. It is primarily used by cyclists but it is a useful resource for this sort of problem.

no-ones seen the damage yet... if you can make it look like it did when you got it, i say go for the home repair!

whats the worst that can happen?
if you dont try and fix it you pay £500
if you try and fix it and fail you pay £500
if you try and fix it and succeed you SAVE £500

post pics

fix it yourself

if you cant do a proper job of the repair yourself, then its costing £500 regardless, so fucking thrash it, flip it, wheelie it, off road it...
get your moneys worth.
