https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1052029_bikers_plan_city_fuel_protest_

I actually heard this from ZX10R man who gave me a jibe about having to commute into the city (I don't work in the city anymore).

1000+ bikers on Thursday June 5th are to stage a go slow on the M60 and M62,

Staging area is at Birch services 8AM Thursday erm obviously towards Manchester rather than the traditional meet up area for Manchester riders to get to Squires.

Police are apparently unaware of this 'protest', also Birch is motorway access only as far as I know so no learners.

seems like a good idea, i'd suggest doing this in other areas as well and more often.

however in my opinion the most effective protests are violent ones, im fairly sure that if several million people rioted a few years ago we wouldnt be in iraq.

im sure all cabbies, truckers, bikers, commuters etc have a common goal and should work together to get tax's reduced on petrol, we pay more than anyone else yet our roads are in crapper condition, more congestion and generally inferior to everyone else.

How stupid can Newspapers be!? It's hardly a snap protest any more, the police now have 3 whole days to get mobile and potentially stop it happening.

I suppose the good thing is that it has more publicity and more bikers will show up, but would've been a lot more likely to succeed if it was kept quiet.

O well, good on the bikers for organising it Karma

EDIT: Ok, just read the thing properly and they want the police there to make it safe, so good on them Razz

Sounds like exactly what everyone will be doing anyway Smile

I would be there, but it's a hell of a long journey for me to make.

If 1000 bikers do turn up to cause a disruption as well as cab drivers etc, then it really could be something big!

Rolling Eyes See thats exactly the thing, this is the reason why we get abused by the authourities, becuase we take it and then whenever something is suggested to combat it, everyone makes up bullshit excuses about how it's too far etc Tut Tut .
It may be inconvienient but fuck it I'm prepared to make the 130 Mile journey even if it does cost me a bomb, in the end it might just be worth it Wink

If anyone else here is interested in going, please could you PM me or something and we could arrange a meet Very Happy

I fully agree, but it's a hell of a journey from the south coast to Manchester to get there for 8:00am including a day off work (could stay at my mums I guess, but that would mean 2 days off which I can't really justify or afford)

If something happens in my relative area (yes, 130 miles would be inside my 'willing to travel' limits I guess) then I would gladly go along. For example, if London or Birmingham had a big protest I would happily go along without thinking twice.

I think the local bikers (of which there are plenty in that area - how many million people live along the M62 belt area?!) will more than make up for my poor absence!

Ideally there would be say 5 protests all done at the same time in a fair few big cities up and down the country. I just can't justify spending all the time off work and a 500 mile return journey with 4 days preparation where I can't book time off.

I would LOVE to be there. Public protest is something I am extremely interested and passionate about, but sometimes on short notice it's just a bit too much Sad

It should be a tremendous day though. I really hope it all goes to plan and Mac Kaliba, I think you're a great guy for going up!

Has anyone got any news on any further information with regards to the cab drivers and van drivers etc joining in? It would be excellent if there was a lane of vans and cabs and then a couple lanes of bikes. Hopefully the people behind the protest won't bow to the Police demands i.e. stay off the motorway and everyone park in the hard shoulder or some tripe like that!

Well rush hour ain't the best time to prove a point as traffic is bad enough anyway.

But all it needs at other times is for some group to drive/ride at the legal limit in all 3 lanes on a M/Way to bring it to grid lock pretty easily.
No laws broken, police could do very little, as all you would have to do is rotate and keep speed a bit lower in inside to lanes so that overtaking was taking place, think lorries and how long they can take.
Same with in towns a few people who simply just keep to the legal limits would create havock.

We don't need public disorder, its public order that would create the most disruption. Also has the knock on effect of cutting the money making speed cams purse strings.

If I had known about it earlier I would have travelled the 187 miles to ride with that many fellow bikers. Guess I shoud keep up with events more often. So if there any more local protests being organised post them. Being from south wales the swansea one sounds good if it's going ahead, I can pop in to M&P's while there and by some bits for the nike Very Happy

Just got into work

Motorway was clear till you hit the M602. Filtered to the front of the traffic and then their was one police 4X4 sat in the middle lane about 100-200 yards behind all the bikes. Thought I might as well join them as I am going that way anyway but as I went to over take the prick swerved right at me to stop me. Nearly had me to.

Pulled of the M602 early at trafford thinking I could get round. Not knowing that area I manage to end up coming out at the start of the convoy .

Now I am at the front, police are blocking all roads so I have no alternative than follow wherever the police was forcing them to go. We end at the top of Regents road. The police had put a road block stopping them going onto mancunian way stopping them goning into the centre... just where i needed to go. In the end after 20 minutes sat on regents road, helmets off etc they take us to Salford Keys outside Century radio.

Picture is at the junction as you come of the M602
