Me and 6 other people headed off to the ring on wednesday at about 3:30 am, in Milton keynes it was absolutley pissing it down as i opened the shed to get my bike out so i was not looking forward to going on my bike to the eurotunnel. Mad Met one of the others at junction 14 of the m1 and by that time my gloves were already totally soaked and weighed about 2 kilos each. Evil or Very Mad
Met the rest of the group at toddington services where we filled up and i bought a 3 quid pair of red gardening gloves which i wore all the way to germany. Laughing Embarassed

Got to the tunnel with no problems apart from being very wet, collapsed on the train and then went through windy France and then through Belgium at a steady 150kmh or so.
Got through Belgium into Germany and the person leading us had made a route on his sat nav using the most spectacular twisty roads i've ever seen, i was way out of my depth trying to follow them on my lardy tourer but im still alive Razz
Only had one or two near misses as we bombed through the Eifel mountains to our hotel.
Got to the hotel at about 6pm if i remember right to be greeted by the owner who couldnt do enough for us, and she was english so all was rosey.
Mr. Green Thumbs Up

After a bloody good nights sleep we set off for a 160 mile planned rideout on some even better roads than we did the day before, roads so twisty i was going midly dizzy. Shocked
Im talking switchbacks that you take in 1st gear, which i was crap at but still enjoyed them. Laughing Including some nice long winding roads that you could bomb along through, whilst negotiating the bike friendly German traffic. Never seen so many cars drive into the ditch to let bikers pass!! Thumbs Up

After lunch in some small town we headed off for the ring at about 4 since the public session started at 5 ish. After getting to Nurburg we seemed to get lost and it took ages to find the ring, it didnt seem that well signposted?!!! After alot of farting about we got to the ring to be greeted by mega bucks cars and bikes everywhere, and i dont mind saying that more than myself was somewhat intimidated by the machinery that was there. Embarassed

We all sat down in the ring cafe to get a drink and we soon started to talk of whos going round the ring, just as we did it started to spit with rain and i was in two minds to go round or not. But i thought i cant ride all this fucking way not to go round ?! Rolling Eyes So we headed off for the ticket building (21euros a lap now btw) where i purchased a 1lap ticket and then nervously set off back to my bike as it started to spit with rain a bit more. Shocked Shocked

Sat on my bike for a moment trying to get my shit together with the other person who was going round with me, thinking of when the best time to go was and then just thought bollocks might as well go now before it really starts to piss down.

Got to the ticket booth and was nervous as fuck as i took the ticket out of my mouth and stuck the ticket in the machine, after a 5 second wait the barrier lifted and i set off out through the cones on the straight and off after my friend on his e reg gsxr750 streetfighter.
Caught him up quite easily but we both were caught out by the corner that turns sharp left then right at the top of the hill (where everyone stands funnily enough), managed to stay on track and then just carried on desperately trying not to fall off whilst keeping out of the way of some bloody fast people.
Stayed behind the gixxer until the last corner before the straight where i let her rip and went by matey on the gixxer like he was in reverse and touched 170mph before braking hard for the exit. Its a shame you cant use the whole straight even if you did buy a two lap ticket you still have to come in and go out again through the machine.
After coming in it started to really piss down but i didnt really care, i was just sat there smiling like a loon which for me is rare.
The ride back was wet but we were all buzzing like mad. Mr. Green Cool Laughing
If you are thinking about going to the ring but are not sure about doing it, JUST FUCKING DO IT! Its quality, and i will be going back at some point in the not too distant future.

After the ring it was just back to the hotel to slob out and eat and drink then get ready for our 9am departure for home. Crying or Very sad
The ride home was torture, my throttle hand was totally numb with pain. Laughing But we got home at about 7o'clock and all is well. Thumbs Up
Didnt take any pictures at the ring since it was raining but i found myself on the ring webcam at the ticket machine with another mate behind me on his gsxr1000 (which came back sometime after me) Razz
The hotel we used was https://www.hotel-wilhelmshoehe.de/en/welcome/welcome.html
And the price was 150 each for two nights including breakfast and dinner and drinks.
I will upload some more pics from other people as i get them, my pics are shite but tough. Mr. Green They are not in order either.

First time I've heard of a Blackbird being called a lardy tourer, maybe down to the rider?* Confused
Thanks for the write up, a good read Thumbs Up

* FWIW know a guy with a Pan who's done the ring. Now that's a lardy tourer and I don't think he even took the panniers off Shocked Thumbs Up

Return, you can probably get the ferry cheaper but we wanted the flexibility of being able to come home early if we made it to france earlier.
