I thought they were not allowed.

And its not like they are subtle like the others.

But the others are to cool to moan about and obviously allowed.

*pointless rant*

I've also noticed a few animated ones, and a few Wink ing ones lol.

As far as I know its a bandwidth issue, and in the end of the day its up to Korn/Mods.

The overt ones are quite distracting too (How old do I sound!! Shocked )

Exactly the winking ones are fine and not a problem.

These ones are just annoying.

Mines is under 10kb like the rules state!
You cant ask for the ones you dont like to be deleted, but keep the ones you do like.
If one has to go they should all go.subtle or not.

Unless other forum users like it,in which case it's ok.

All you had to do is drop me a pm and ask me to remove it as it was doing your head in and i would have.
And judging by _steve_'s response above,he would have too.

People like kickstart and stinkwheel are long established members of this place, and have certain allowances made.

Oh right,i get it now.
If you have been a member here for so many years, you can break the rules Thumbs Up
Personally i dont have a problem with any of the avatars on the site (especcially kickstart&stinkwheel considering what they have to offer the site in knowledge and experience).
What i do have a problem with is the double standards.

I will admit however,my avatar was a bit over the top Laughing

I think it's only a recent thing, maybe in the last month or 2.

Fucking hell, McGoo. Now you've done it - you know what mods are like when they have to get off their arses and actually do some modding.

We'll never hear the end of this now... Rolling Eyes

I'm guessing that _steve_s never got deleted.

Kickstart asked Korn many many years ago if his avatar was 'ok' to keep when the new rules came in.
Don't think anyone else has.

Quite a few have had animated avatars and had them removed and re-instated them a few times quietly too.

Personally I'm of the opinion that it causes far too much trouble a few people having 'subtle' animations.
Then not only will some have 2mb dancing hamsters, but a few more are going to see it and think "oh, well I can have something a little less subtle and I deserve the right to moan like an OAP who missed her bus when it gets removed". And so on until this forum turns in to yet another replica of myspace - an excellent example of why 'people' should not be given creative control on public websites.

So, out of interest... what do people consider they would be happy to see by /every/ post?... winking pictures, waving flags, jiggling boobs (as a small part), jiggling boobs (as the whole avatar), similar with a male crotch (remembering women do use this site too!), a spasm-inducing japanese cartoon?

Sorry, I obviously didn't read half the posts in this thread, my bad.

And... that's nice Smile, however the intention of the 'no animated avatars' rule was to stop this site turning into an annoying myspace style conglomoration as I was trying to suggest, rather than to try and save bandwidth - for instance on this 'posting' page there is about 24k worth of smilies.

Personally I like the site for the content and the way it tries to focus on the content rather than flashy extras.

And by the way justmetoo, I wasn't aware of this thread until today, so partly thus the confusion with yours.

Oh and McGee, the 10kb limit is also not just for the server - but for those on slow connections (even though most have fast these days) aren't left for too long Smile.

Mission accomplished then Wink .

I was trying to subtly freak people out and I made sure it kept under 10k (there's actually only an 0.3kb increse in size from my old one).

If anyone wants it removing please say. I didn't have permission off anybody to do one and I certainly don't want the forum to land up like visordown.

I might point out that I am not the only person to have a very subtly animated avatar but I'm not naming names.

I was going to suggest sticking to the current 10k limit, thinking along the lines of how annoying can you make it with only 10k?

Then I had a tinker with the Gimp and realised... very annoying! (0.6k)

Linked to annoying avatar size picture. It was actually making me feel sick having looked at it for a while. I probably wouldn't click on it if you have epilepsy.
