Went for ride lunchtime and came across a rather forlorn looking Ducati rider.

Stopped to see if he needed help which he did. He'd manage to call the RAC before his phone battery went flat

Poor sod had been there since 10:30 this morning it was now 1.30.

Asked what was wrong and he said it just cut out.

The RAC had come out and had a look but couldn't fix it so they said they'd send a recovery truck.

I lent him my phone to chase them up and they had passed it to a local garage.

While we were waiting i had a look to see if i could spot the cause of the problem.

When he pressed the started the engine turned over fine caught twice and died. So i thought the electrics must be ok.

The i asked him about the reserve tank as it seemed like a fuel problem.

Turns out that it doesn't have the good old manual tap, just a light that comes on.

Opened the fuel flap and couldn't see anything so shook the bike.....Nothing not a sound.

The guys face was a picture.

The recovery truck arrived and went off to a garage to get fuel and as soon as the fuel went in it fired straight up Smile

He looked so p1ssed off not surprisingly since he'd been there 3 hours.

Nice chap couldn't stop thanking me for stopping, said no-one else had stopped in the 3 hours he'd been sat there.

I'll stick to my manual fuel tap, don't trust these new fangled ones.

edit: can't believe the RAC guy never spotted it had run out of fuel.

Last weekend when my reg/rec fried itself and I was sat on the side of the road with my mate in the lakes there must have been around 10 bikes went past us without stopping.

A harley sportster went past us twice in fact although the second time it was on the back of a recovery van with it's front wheel pointing in a funny direction.

I wasn't particularly bothered. Unless they were carrying a spare reg/rec on them there wasn't a lot they could do. I certainly didn't have a clue what was wrong with it.

Good on you for stopping. Thumbs Up

Actually, last time I stopped to check on a guy in his late 60's sat at the side of the road smoking. He said he wasn't broken down but had to stop for a cigarette every 20 mins. I guess he had bigger problems really Very Happy

i've broken down a few times,
everytime its happened i've had a few stop,

first time engine seized on rs125, 25miles from home, couldnt find the number for my insurance recovery company.
bloke stopped in his car, explained that he had a ducati and all his family were bikers, went home and came back with a trailer, dropped me off at home!!
couldnt believe it, really was a top bloke!, wouldnt take any money off me so i made sure i put 48 cans of carling in the boot of his car whilst he was on his phone,

i always stop when i see someone now, even if theres nothing you can do it cheers them up a bit

I've been on the receiving end of many people's good nature and generous spirits - that bloke that pushed me with his fireblade up the M1, the time when i had my lowside in the wet. Most of the time it's blatant when a bike's gone down.

Remember when a courier on a Bandit slid off on the Northwick Park roundabout, i saw something was up with all the traffic going around the poor fella, the fact that it was damp and still drizzly, NOBODY offered to help. I filtered through, plonked my bike just before the apex on the roundabout (didn't have any hazards), but at least a bike parked on a roundabout with an indicator on would give prior warning. It was better than having an unsighted lorry or truck careening around the blind apex only to squash the fella.

Picked the old bugger up and his bike and i guess he weren't expecting a young lad to help him up - the floor reeeked of diesel and i saw the telltale rainbows on the tarmac, pointed to it and yer man became aware of what happened. Bike was OK, but the fact that he was unsighted - the roundabout is like one of those gyratory systems and to make it difficult, it's walled, because it's above the metropolitan line railway tracks, so it's technically a series of bridges. Either way, would have just required one impatient bugger to go around it willy nilly to injure him - hence why my bike was parked right on the apex.

Either way, from a distance, if i see anybody stopped, usually slow down, give a Thumbs Up Thumbs Down and wait for a reply. Half the time, it's the guy just having a tab or a slash, but i'd always try and be there for a downed biker, regardless of whether i get the courtesy returned.

Think i should move up toward where you lot live,
Dont get many bikers stop around here.

Well done for helping out,
the more people that do, more likely one day when you need it the favour might be repaid Wink

Thanks beatnck2 for the Karma

My first might i add Smile

I always check if i see a bike at the side of the road unless its blatently obvious they are just having a smoke / rest break.

From previous experience of being stuck at the side of the road before the days of mobile phones with car after car flying by without so much of a second glance i hope my good deeds will be returned.

Wanted to add that 2 police cars drove past. One a traffic car and the other a local plod but neither of them stopped. To busy trying to nab some poor b*stard going 35 in a 30 no doubt Sad

Just hope that this inspires other to offer assistance in the future.

You never know when it will be you.........

He probably thought, "it's only a 50 can't be too heavy" Wink

Carling is shite, infact I believe it is my least favourite beer.

I'll still drink it mind.

I stopped for a hornet rider the other day.
The Ducati dealer gave him it as a loaner.

He was sitting turning it over for a few minutes, so I went over and turned the guys petrol on for him.

Ducatis have fuel taps don't they or are they too flash to have one?

He thanked me in his inferior manner and toodled off down the road very shakily.(like a learner).

Maybe he was scared of the shear power a blue Hornet posseses. Laughing

If it's FI then they don't tend to have them. A light comes on when you are effectively on 'reserve'

I stopped and helped a guy out who was on a k7 GSXR 750. Proper sunday rider, leathers on, bright sunny sunday and was out for a hoon. Turned the engine over, couldn't hear any odd noises so checked the old fuel situation and his tank was bone dry.

I buggered off in the car with my jerry can in the boot (always carry it, never know when it'll be useful) and filled it up and bought it back to him and the bike fired up. He tried to give me £20 for helping him out but I only took the fiver off him i filled up the jerry can with Laughing
