Two cameras have just gone up about a mile from my house and I'm wondering what type they are. I don't have a camera to post pics, so I'll do my best to describe them.

They are on a NSL road, attached about ten foot up to street lighting poles that cover a roundabout. One is facing the roundabout looking West, the other facing down a long straight looking East. They are cream/white, with a small square on the front where the camera sits, and 9-10 inches long.

And in case anyone knows it, it's on the Dumfries - Lockerbie road, just off the A75 by the Pines Golf Centre.

sounds like traffic report type cameras. Just so people can see what the traffics like. Is that road major? Does it get really busy?

Speed cameras usually have two things, a flasher and a camera.

Also, fixed speed cameras have to have bright yellow markings now as law don't they?

Cameras no longer have to be clearly visible ala the Horse Box
Cameras no longer need white lines on the road ala Truvelo and SPECS

From the description they sound more like CCTV/Traffic cameras but without photos it's all guesswork. Only sure thing these days with speed (sorry should that be safety) cameras is if there is a warning sign before the camera.

Traffic camera

I think speed cameras are lower down, traffic cameras are on top of lamp posts to get a bigger picture, can also be remotely pivotted as well i think some of them to look around

Could be a static ANPR camera. Down my way the traffic cameras are blue and the ANPR ones are white. The speed cameras are a damn sight bigger. (but still hidden behind trees even though they are bright yellow Rolling Eyes )

We have the ANPR Interceptor team round here, I'm not skimping £15 on the tax to get chased down by an Evo/Scooby

Or would I....

I hope they are not speed camera's. if they are they will be the first in the region Crying or Very sad

hopefully they are just trafic camera's as i ges they are looking at the volume of cars on the road with the new housing estate/tesco's being built near by..hopefully.

Ps. Didnt know there was anyone else from the "shire" on bcf, what bike you riding, you may have seen me on a cbr400/600 in red..

do they look like this?

https://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speed-camera-types/spec-average-speed-camera.jpg

if so they are Specs which sound a bit like what you are describing
they measure your speed between two points so make you behave.
Clicky

Rumours are that the scamera partenerships are starting to set pairs of these little beast up to work in the same zone as another pair so when you hit the first one you behave untill you see the next one, which you think is the end of the scameras zone, but may be the start of another scamera zone so if you speed up you may get caught twice in both zones

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/bcf_scamera_pic.jpg

so you hit scamera 1
slow down to speed limit
hit scamera 2 and speed up thinking its finished
hit camera 3 and have gone too fast between scamera 1 and 3
get 3 points to you doorstep
then get caught again by scamera 4 for being too fast between scamera 2 and 4
get a court appearence to your doorstep

Very effective at stopping people speeding though[/img]

Am I right in thinking these are ineffective for motorcycles?

They are usually front facing when I see them on the motorways.

I nearly rear ended another biker while trying to watch my speedo while going past a speed camera Embarassed

Speed cameras are really annoying aswell when you are trying to follow road signs but you have to watch out for the cameras Rolling Eyes

Front facing SPECS don't register bikes. Neither (allegedly) do they track cars that switch lanes between cameras...

I can allegedly confirm that they don't track cars that change lanes between cameras. Wink

I thought that they'd 'upgraded' them so that they tracked cars that switched lanes too?
