Hi lads, im looking at buying one for my shoei xr1000 in black, ive always wanted one just for the hell of it, so im looking on sites to see whats available, the only two that stand out are a light tint or v.dark one, as the iridiums i think will look a bit silly on a black helmet.
Anyways my question is has anyone got either of them two, if so is the light one , 'too' light to bother buying one, and the v.dark one what are the legality issues with it?

Cheers

The light is gong to be "to light" and the V Dark is going to be right.

I heard someone say once , think it was an old girlfriend "once youve had black you never look back!!!" She loved her dark visors Rolling Eyes

Legal? not at night. Thumbs Up

i`ve got both now for my arai but are you getting one for looks or for function?
the light tints aren`t "too light" to be useful...they`re actually pretty good and work just as well as shades to stop sun-blinding/dazzle.They`re actually better in useable terms than the v.dark tint coz they retain some decent vision at night and you dont need to keep swapping back to clear..

The v.dark tints "look" better if you want "cool points"...... but they`re not as functional.Good in the sunshine..but a nightmare when it`s dark or gloomy..

Dark tints are not legal any time of day full stop. Wearing one at night should result the book being thrown at the wearer as its just idiotic.

I have been wearing a dark tint one in the daytime for years and change to clear for nights. Been pulled by the police with no mention of the visor. They are much safer than wearing sunglasses in bright conditions.

Its more because i dont like wearin shades and being blinded from sun isnt much fun lol, but i do agree the dark tint does look smart. Another Q. - the pinlocks you can get for them it makes no odds if its clear on a tinted visor rite?

..unless you want to be the first person to try a dark tint pinlock on a dark visor and report the light transmission with a lux meter? I'd be interested to see how much light is actually transmitted with a dark pinlock on dark visor, but since i can't justify getting one for this experiment, I'd rather not. I've always had clear pinlock/fog city on a dark visor. It's done me a world of good in the winter with the low sun but with air temperatures being cold enough to form mist.

Im looking on www.racevisors.co.uk they have light medium dark tints, the dark obv looks better but i've read that they can be a pain in the arse in that as soon as it tones slightly down from a v.bright day that they can obstruct visibility meaning a change back to clear visor, not used one before so im not quite sure just how dark they are.

I used racevisors.co.uk to get some tinted visors for me and the OH...decent prices and came with a free visor bag too...thats not to say they arrived with any hiccups but Thumbs Up for customer service...

Ordered the light tint at first but they were too close to clear in tint and probably wouldnt make much difference...exchanged these for dark tint and although they seem dark in appearance, when in use they were very good...happy i got one now...only used it twice so far, once got caught in the rain and it wasnt too bad...

Just go for the darkest you can get - it's the irridium visors that can produce colour distortions, i had a couple and made colours register browner/yellower - not good for looking at traffic lights. Dark tints usually have a slightly green/grey/blue hue to them so it's certainly better. Racevisors is just about THE only place to get dark visors - their customer service is second to none - they sent me new pinlock pins free of charge when the ones on my shoei pinged off.

you can return any item you have brought through mail order or online as long as it is in the original condition and within the stated time period of the distance selling laws.

best to check the companys T&Cs first as they may try to charge you a restocking fee Thumbs Up

[edit] Just checked their returns policy and oviously are not aware of the DSR and look like they would make it very difficult for you to make a return so be wary if you do!

[edit again] Embarassed after some more research they have no DSL and very few consumer protection laws as they have an independant legal system, they only follow these guidelines Clicky to which their T&Cs follow so i take my previous edit back.

I've got a Shoei XR-1000 and an Arai Corsair. Tinted visors MUST transmit 70% of light through for it to be legal - hence light tints are legal - BUT dark tint's are a matter of whether or not the police officer is going to nick you for it because the letter of the law states otherwise - Race cans, small plates, dark visors - that equates to about 70% of sportsbike riders so they don't generally do you for them unless your riding catches their attention.

Wrong, i had a black visor with all the legal stamps on it but it was still illegal.

At the moment a visor must let 50% light through to be legal.

They are based in the Channel Islands hence likely the distance selling laws do not apply.

But they will not have the approved stamps unless they comply with the standards, part of which is 50% light transmission (which is a pretty light tint).

All the best

Embarassed after some research into it it seems your right again!
Didn't realise that they operated a totaly seperate legal system to the UK, i was under the impression they just had their own twists to our laws.
but it seems that they have very few consumer protection laws and the closest thing i could find to the DSRs are some guidelines Clicky which their T&Cs follow so i take back what i siad before. Thumbs Up

Yep I never thought I would do it...only had the accord for 6 months...loved it everytime i drove it but now i've made the transition to a bike there is no looking back and certainy no regrets...sure, driving the missus 1.0 baby blue Seat leaves me craving, but thats what the bikes for Laughing...what car did you have?

Seeing you've ordered the dark tint, think you've made the right choice Thumbs Up ...for any others interested, RV changed my light tint over no probs...but then again my order did not go to plan initially...got there in the end and well chuffed with their customer service...

Delivery is normally 3-5 days...my first order from RV was withheld at the PO due to some import duties but RV told me this was a error in the despatch which they sorted now so you shouldn't have any probs with this...

I have a HJC HQ-1 carbon lid...looks loads nicer with the tinted visor on Thumbs Up

Any one after a dark tint KBC visor for the VR2/Force RR let me know...I bought it for the other half who unfortunately had an accident the other day...she only used it once and it comes with a visor bag and new base plates too Cool

Just for info, this place the only one I could find when googling for AGV Visor black, place in Gurnsey, and they mailed me stating "darker than sunnies", so darker than UK legal tinted. Racevisors only did tinted for my lid.

Also, knowing the law around this as you say is 50% I asked a motorcycle cop that was having a cuppa in my local Hien Gericke (was going to tell him this isnt what I pay my taxes for, but decided best not Wink ) about dark visors and he said
"If a MC cop pulls you they probably wont do you cos they understand why you wearing one (does this mean they know we perving at all the girlies, amazing!), more sense than sunglasses, unless you wearing at night in which case your nicked. If caged copper he probably wont have a clue about the law on this, or anything else" which I thought was pretty funny Very Happy

Yep, it was just after they brought the legislation in. Still got the lid up in the loft somewhere, it was years ago.
