I have posted a previous topic about a monster in the new bikers section but have now been advised to get something like an XT660. What i am unsure of is how these would take restriction because i am still 18 and also are there any better bikes of this type?

Thanks for any advice

This sort of bike should take restriction quite well.

However, personally I think it's not a very good bike - if we were talking second hand for £800, then fair enough, but otherwise it doesn't seem to 'offer' much.

As an idea, for about the same money you could get a BMW G650X series bike, which make a decent chunk more power and has quite a significant chunk less weight.

How much have you got to spend?
Much as I dislike Ducatis, I'd take a Monster over a XT.

Personally, I'd say spend £1500 on SV650 or Monster and save the rest for the next bike or maybe a trackday, some farkles etc.

I presume you don't actually want off-road ability or anything as you're looking for an XT?

You know what i must have tried every bike possible and all sugestions seem to take straight back to the SV650! Looks like that will have to be it. Thanks for the help anyway.

Oh and i dont think i would ever take it of road so the SV it is then!

After saying that though, there are now quite a lot of decent bikes in the sub £2k bracket to be considered.

Just discussing with Marjay today and was reminded that you can get a J model zx6 for really not that much - similar price to an SV of the same age. You get a lot more bike for your money.
However it's higher geared (not so good restricted) and insurance will probably be a lot more for you too.
