 |
|
My 05 R6 won't start, the only thing I've done was change the blue LED sidelights before the MOT,I've since put them back in.
When I turn the key the fuel pump doesn't start but the engine turns over, there are no fault lights on the dash except the Temp reading always says Hi.
I've had a Motorcycle Auto Elec work on it for about 3 hours but got no where. He bypassed the ECU and the fuel pump starts so thats OK,he tested the Tilt Switch which was OK.
My alarn is a Meta357T V2 which the Auto Elec says is OK, the bike will turn over but if left for 30 secs the Immobiliser beeps and kicks in so the bike won't turn over then which leads me to thinkin thats OK.
The bike was runnin great, I left it in the garage for 5 days on the Optimiser, changed the sidelights before the MOT and it wouldn't start!
Any Thoughts greatly appreciated as i really don't know what to do, Yamaha main dealer want £60 a hour and said they will just use a process of illimination same as the Auto Elec and wouldn't put a time scale/price on Diagnostic ____________________ 2004 05 Plate Yamaha R6, Mistral Black - SOLD

I know the auto elec checked the fuses but after speaking to a bike shop they think it's a good chance it's the Multi-Function Relay, I may try one of them and sell on ebay if it's not.
AS for the ECU, I can't try one of them as the keys have to match as they have a chip inside that pairs up with the ECU.
If it is the Multi Function Relay or even the ECU why isn't there any fault light/code showin on the dash ? ____________________ 2004 05 Plate Yamaha R6, Mistral Black - SOLD

Couple of questions, obvious (and insulting) one first:
1. You've made sure it's not the killswitch, right?
2. Has anyone had a go at the ignition switch recently, or is the keyflap stuck on it? Tried jiggling the key to see if the fuel pump activates?
Neither of those will directly solve the issue, but they might help point to where it is... ____________________ Current garage: VFR800 FI-W | RD500LC YPVS | SV650 K2 | MZ TS250/1 | MZ ETZ251 | BSA WDB40

Um, more stupid/not so stupid questions, then:
The fuel pump often has its own dedicated fuse. Have you checked that?
Are you getting a spark?
After that, it's a case of a Haynes manual wiring diagram and a multimeter to see what is/isn't working. It's a slow time consuming process, but a lot cheaper than taking it to a dealer ____________________ Current garage: VFR800 FI-W | RD500LC YPVS | SV650 K2 | MZ TS250/1 | MZ ETZ251 | BSA WDB40

As i say I had a Auto Elec work on the bike for about 3 hours, He bypassed the ECU and the fuel pump started, so that would mean the fuel pump fuse is OK. I haven't checked to see if I'm getting a spark as getting the fuel pump to work seemed like the priority.
A bike shop has told me to try a Multi-Function Relay,so I've ordered one of them at £25,so should have that Tuesday,If not that I'll sell it on Ebay, they retail at the dealer £45.
New Discovery anyway Now!!
The manual says
Quote: | IMMOBILISER INDICATOR LIGHT
The electrical circuit of the indicator light can be checked by turning the key to "ON"
If the indicator light does not come on for a few seconds, then go off, have a Yamaha dealer check the electrical circuit.
When the key is turned to "OFF" and 30 seconds have passed, the indicator light will start flashing indicating the immobiliser system is enabled. After 24 hours have passed, the indicator light will stop flashing, however the immobiliser system is still enabled.
NOTE
This model is also equipped with a self diagnosis device for the immobiliser system. If the immobiliser system is defective, the indicator will start flashing and the multi-function meter will display an error code when the key is turned to "ON". |
When I turn my key to "ON" the indicator light doesn't come on at all.
When i turn my key to "OFF" and 30 seconds have passed the indicator light doesn't flash! But I'm not gettin no fault codes on the LCD. ____________________ 2004 05 Plate Yamaha R6, Mistral Black - SOLD

Try your master key. Could be a fault with the key you are using.
The Meta 357 V2 has it's own immobiliser which may or may not be wired up as your bike has it's own immobiliser. A Meta System installer can plug a test box into the harness of the alarm and test the circuits in a matter of minutes so you could get that done for a minimal cost to just eliminate the alarm.
A Yamaha dealer can (I'm quite sure) plug in their diagnostic equipment and 'tell' the ECU to switch on the fuel pump. They would also be able to read any stored error codes. Again this would take a matter of minutes and shouldn't cost too much.
Good luck. ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |

With a problem like this I always go back to the last thing I did before it happened. In your case this was re-fitting the blue LED sidelights. Did you have to remove the nose fairing to do this? If so did you unplug any of the connectors.
I had a similar thing happen to me once on a Suzuki. I unplugged a multi-connector behind the nose fairing on the main loom to do something and forgot to plug it back in again. I had the exact symptoms you describe - funky dash outputs and no fuel pump though the engine would crank. I would suggest re-checking over the wiring up near where you were working. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

THanks for the reply, changing the side lights is just a case of removing a small cowling, then removing the cover held in with one fastener, then the bulb pulls out.
I'll go over the area again to double double check because if i don't and it turns out to be that I'll kick myself even harder!! ____________________ 2004 05 Plate Yamaha R6, Mistral Black - SOLD
