Hi,

Just went to have a look at another bike, its another rg125f but this is the WOLF model. It's a 1994 with 12k on the clock, cosmetically its ok in a similar condition as the other ones I've bought before. It hasn't got a ignition barrel and the loom has been hacked away at. The kiddie said he can't get it started but the carb is missing a main jet (overfuelling possibly?), the cylinder is getting fuel and has got compression and its got a good strong blue spark. I gave it a HPI check and it came out perfect with nothing to worry about. He wanted £100 for it and I managed to get him down to £60, you reckon its worth it?

Ta again,
Jack

A HPI check has confirmed it has not been stolen, possibly lost the key and bodged it? Or may be a stolen recovery? The kid has got all the past MOTs for it and some service history and old receipts for parts bought/work done.

ta,
Jack

It runs. It just needs a good going over when I get time. Either that or I'll pass it on to someone who does have time.

If he has paperwork it's probably not stolen, though some people keep their paperwork under the seat. Sounds like someone lost the key or it fell out going down the road, as often happens with strokers.

I would yank his arm off personally. These RG's are going to be sought after in years to come, like the fizzys and superdreams are now.

He did say that the previous owner had lost the key when out on a piss up (hope he wasn't riding the bike at the time). When speaking to him again it turnt out that I know a fair few of his mates really well so if it did turn out to be stolen (which I highly doubt) it could get sorted out.

I would like to keep the bike as a whole for a while and sell it on in a few years (hopefully when it's value may have risen) but unfortunately I don't think the parents could stomach having any more bikes in the garden. I haven't even told them that I've bought another bike Shocked.

Ta,
Jack

Picked the bike up earlier this morning but have been busy all day helping my mate get his bike ready for its MOT. Anyway here's a photo of it, looking through the receipts it came with it and someone paid £700 for it in early 2007 :o. It looks in pretty good condition to be honest (better than the other two that I've bought), I wonder if I can get it running again? If not its most probably going to sold as a non-runner or as spares.

Hi again,

Tried to get the bike started today so I began with cleaning the carb which turnt out to be full of gunky crap. Then checked for a good spark and it was lovely and blue but it wouldn't start?
So the cylinder was getting a spark and fuel but wouldn't start so I'm guessing its a lack of compression. I then began looking for an air leak; no fuel seemed to be escaping from the base or the head so possibly crank seal?

So I took off the generator casing and loads of petrol came pouring out so I believe that confirmed that there is an issue with the crank seal. I tipped the bike to the left and even more fuel came out.

From what I've described do you think that the left hand crank seal could be causing the bike not to start? If not, what else could cause problems? If so, is replacing the seal a difficult job to do? Finally is there anything that I've missed?

Thanks for your time,
Jack

Jack it sounds like the carb float is not closing the float needle and petrol is running from the tank down through the carb into the inlet and filling the crank case. That there is petrol past the crank seal is an indication the the seal is letting by, so I would say you have 2 problems:

The carb needs a good service.

The main bearings & main seals need checking out. If you grab the generator rotor and try to move it up & down there should be little or no movement in the crank. If there is any you need to strip the bugger down and fit new bearings & seals.

The generator rotor is nice and sturdy so there's no issues there, I gave the carb a good clean yesterday (with carb cleaner, brushes and air compressor) so that should be sorted. Now just to do the crank seals, but I need a flywheel puller. Does anyone know where I can get one of these from? Or anyone other method that I can remove the flywheel with? Any tips with replacing the L/H crank seal?

Thanks again,
Jack

I got the flywheel off my pitbike after breaking 4 hammers trying to prize it off, and ended up bashing it off with a rock Laughing

I'd advise doing it properly lol.

After just pulling the flywheel on my CG125, I recomend getting the correct tool for the job, i tried with hammers and screwdrivers, i tried with a 'universal' puller, then phoned david silver spares and got the Honda tool for £10, and it came of easily, without damaging anything.

Cheers
John
