have all been ruined.

Me and my brother went out for a ride around some of our favourite roads close to home to find they have all been screwed up by daft new speed limits.

The wirksworth road from duffield used to be a glorious 60mph twisty bit of fun. it has now been reduced to 40mph. And to top it off there were three mobile scamera traps on it ffs.

When they were NSL you could get away with 70mph without the police bothering and have some awesome fun. Now the speed limit has been lowered by so much 70mph will see you banned, and possibly in prison having some fun with bubba.
Im sure its just another way to earn the local council/ police farce extra revenue from speeding tickets.

Most of the roads around matlock and ashbourne have also been reduced by 10-20mph.

Now there is a big campaign to get the A608 ( recently featured in Performance bikes as being one of the best roads in britain ) reduced from 60 to 30 due to the high number of accidents on it.

These are the last 3 major accidents:-

Car full of drunk chavs ( driver 4 times the limit ) ploughs head on into a subaru, killing the 4 chavs.

Car T bones a bus pulling out of broomfield college,

Scooter hits a wall due to the rider being drunk.

Now as far as I can see there is no indication that speed was the main factor in any of these crashes. Its mainly due to drink driving.

Our wonderful council have already screwed up the entrances to the best corners on this road by adding rumble strips, to reduce the speed limit too would be verging on criminal. I love that bit of road!

Has anyone else from around our increasingly shitty country had their speed limits reduced?

North Wales seem to be getting an increasing number of blanket 50mph limits.

I've also noticed when a road is resurfaced that instead of painting the lines how they were before with the overtaking markings up the middle that they just seem to be making everything double white lines so you can't overtake. Annoying when you get stuck behind a tractor or a caravan which tends to happen an awful lot in North Wales.

Welcome to Britain 2008 , the A675 is going to get a blanket 50mph limit on it soon , the A675 is currently NSL and can be taken at 13mph Wink.

Snake pass used to be NSL its now 50 and has speed traps,

Cat n Fiddle is now very heavily patrolled,

which leaves the horriblely surfaced back roads....

I'm probably going to Sorn the CBR , 10 months a year because of this and only use the CBR as a tourer for the next 3 years.

My ride back home takes me along the A515 all the way from Lichfield past Ashbourne, Buxton and then onto Glossop and it's all 50mph blanket limited. I take it faster, but it's absolutely ridiculous how they can warrant them being 50mph, but having other roads that are far more dangerous being NSLs.

Ah well, soon it will be a case of driving onto the road and 'plugging in' to a magnetic track or something that goes along the road that will drive you along safely, efficiently and without using petrol.

I saw a few fast lads I was following around Coloerton on my lufbra circuit riding with no plates, presumably because they can't be arsed getting speed trapped and getting their number plates taken. Suffice to say, these guys probably know a few back roads anyways. Hooning about the midlands is just bliss... I hope that leicestershire doesn't follow suit.

That's the thing. It's actually now balanced more in favour of removing your plate. The chances of getting punished whilst having a plate are more than not having one. It's economically viable to remove it if you are wanting to have a good time.

I want to learn the technique where you put your foot over the plate. Lean forward and stretch your leg out backwards. Just got to be really careful not to put your foot in your wheel Shocked

I've just been down the 'long hill' road (whaley bridge to buxton)

Not only have they lowered the speed limit to 50 and in many places 40 and not only does it now constantly have police sitting at one end zapping you as you come over the hill, but now they are now planning to do a bit of re-surfacing on it.

There's piles and piles twice my height of that lovely gravel that covers the roads so well Crying or Very sad Rolling Eyes

the bottom half is now 50-40. The rest will follow suit by the end of the year.

Over the last couple of years I have noticed that 50mph seems to be the new NSL on busy Axxx roads and 40mph a mile either side of a town.

They seem to lover the limits even without evidence of accidents (or the 1 fatality in 5 years!! signs). I believe they can do this "to lower the traffic noise" or just traffic calming.

Sometimes you can see why there are new limits, if new houses have been built, but often (and more often than not) the will use an assident at a bad junction to justify 20 miles of 40-50 mph limits on the same road.

Trouble is, no one can really question this logic of these silly speed limits in this day and age. I want to get to work on time or have some fun is not an acceptable excuse to keep a limit at NSL. They will tell you to leave early or catch a bus!

Its all part of this assident reduction to zero nonsense that means everyone is made to go so slow that even if we are chatting on the phone, rolling a fag and reprogramming the sat nav we can't drive into a field and ruin those lovely satistics becuase we are only going 3mph. It would take a saint not to nod off at that speed!

Soon we will be awash with 30, 40 and 50's (yes even motorways, to keep the noise down and your carbon footprint small). The few NSL's left will be frequented by speed freeks looking for that 60mph high!

have done the same in gloucestershire they have reduced a NSL to a 50 and in th 11 mile stretch they can put camera vans in 13 places i think, in a six mile stretch they had 3 vans enforceing the other day, there have been a number of deaths on this road, i would say most were down to excess speed and inexperienced drivers and most of the accidents happen late at night or early hours, and suprising as it is are still happening, because no one is enforcing at 2am.

so now we have a 50 everyone drives at 40 then you get the local farmers and oaps doing 35:) which i have no problem with but when you go todo over takes you have to make sure you keep with the limits as the good overtaking areas which are safe are where the camera vans lurk..................why they did not retain the nsl and enforce that i do not know, there is not one corner that cant be taken at 60 and thats even in my pickup...............
