Nope, it didn't invole promising it I'd never take a soldering iron to it again!
I'd only been commuting on my bike for a few months now and all the short journeys were taking their toll on the engine!
On friday I was going to Southampton so the long journey would've worked a treat on it's own but I filled the tank with Optimax and a bit of Redex and now it responds much faster (got normal tesco fuel in it now) and starts much easier.
I think the long ride did the best for it by getting rid of all the shite (carbon?) that's been sat in there but I'm sure the Redex has helped too. Doubt the Optimax did any good after it had ran out but what the hell - I'd not used it on this bike before so why not eh?
Anyway - I'll keep you posted if the Redex seems to make a difference long-term as I'm currently using every time I fill up.

I'm not really a fan of Redex. I'd rather strip down an engine and clean it myself. I don't like adding any chemicals to the already chemical'd up petrol. I suppose it's ok if you don't want to or are not able to strip down your engine as Redex is the best bet for cleaning, but personally I wouldn't use it.
But, if it worked for you then it's cool... ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |

I have used redex on my NS125F it seemed to work. .i.e Reduce carbon and for some reason it seemed to stop smoking as much(Carbon Reduced).
Then I reborded it so I couldent tell much. For the obvious reason.
Anyway Good luck

It's slightly more powerful do you can cruise at the same revs but putting less fuel into the engine.
On the way back from Southampton I used 1/3 of a tank in stead of the normal half. Before I've rocketed there and back and had to fill up on the way back! Speed really does make a big difference to the tank range so i've started cruising at lower speed (75-90) if it means the difference between having to stop to fill up or having to bother unwrapping the warm clothing off of myself to be able to fill up.
Also i've become very lazy and only fill up at Tesco where I don't even have to get off of my bike to pay, it saves so much hassle!

Just started using redex on my NSR about a week ago and it seems to run that little bit smoother! Even started first time when it was -2 the other morning!!
Not used optimax though. |

The Optimax was kind of a "why not" at the time cos people were queueing at Tesco so i went to a Shell. I'm sure it helped the economy of the bike (I'm sure I could get 250 out of a tank with the stuff) but it's not worth the extra money.
My bike generally starts fine in all temperatures but sometimes just doesn't like starting when cold for a couple of attempts even in those warmer totally dry days. It does start easier and seems to initially be smoother rather than having only a couple of cylinders fire up at first. ____________________ Shaft drives rule. |

Might give optimax a miss then, but anything that makes a bike start first time when its freezing is bloody good in my book |

Southampton? I was seeing my girlfriend at uni at the institute's Kimber halls.
Went to Kaos on Friday night which was cool but I was too knackered to stay for very long!
Oh, and Flip - my bike being better is probably more down to the fact it's had a good hot run though I'll keep using the Redex anyway. ____________________ Shaft drives rule. |

I'm running 3 degrees of advance across the upper rev range and throttle position so I can use the Optimax OK and I think it does make a difference
the bike was "only" pulling 182 until the advace was dialled in
I will try adding some octane booster as well for racing and see if it has an effect ____________________ 187.3bhp = 201mph |
