I recieved an email this morning asking me to confirm my ebay account, and saying if i didn't go through the confirmation process my account would be suspended.

The problem was, the link the email launched wasn't onto an ebay page - it was lying over another URL, and it was asking lots of bank account questions, including my PIN number....

well I closed it right away and changed my password, but I was wondering if anyone else has had an email like this.

For reference I've been an ebay member for about 3 years, so it seems rather strange that they want to confirm my identity now. I emailed ebay about it and i'm awaiting their reply.

Get the odd one asking to confirm details etc, but since ebay themselves say they never send such emails they simply get binned with all my other spam I receive.

Wonder just how many people fall for these scams?

The people who actually fall for this and give them their account details are the ones who's accounts get used to sell these scam bikes we've had posts on here about every so often. Don't do it Tut Tut

It's a scam.

Get them every so often, basically thinks like eBay, PayPal, online banks etc will never send you an e-mail asking you to confirm your login details.

If in doubt, check with the company they claim to be from.

Thumbs Up

This is SPAM. Simply delete any of these e-mails you get. eBay launched a public note warning people of this scam months ago.

The most worrying thing about this scam is how do these people get the email addresses? I have received one for Barclays and PayPal, and I reckon these companies have sold their customer lists to third parties which have been sold on and fallen into the hands of these unscrupulous people! The golden rule for email is if you don't know the sender or the subject matter is dubious, just delete it! If it was important then the sender has a variety of other communications tools at their disposal like the post, telephone, fax, text etc.

They probably get your e-mail address the same way as all the other spam people get it.
