well after some negotiations last night I walked "rode" away with this beauty. Its a old 1988 VFR 750 F J that has been ratted/streetfightered. Needs a new fork seal but other than that its good to go.

(pictures not mine, off the ebay add. It was too dark to get any of my own last night)
My plan is to convert it to a stuntbike, so any help regarding that, would be great.

So go on, guess how much I paid? Mr. Green

VFR as a stunt bike? Bearing in mind what happened to Lukes and Binge's VFRs after they wheelied them for extended periods of time i'm not sure that's the best idea. Unless the oil pick up is at the back of the sump or you're planning on doing some serious modding?

yes...

Cost £400. Just spent the morning cleaning it up and taking it all apart. Everything was filthly but cleaned up well. No structural rust, new exhaust. Engine is sound, starts first time. Gearbox is smooth with no false neutrals.

And yes, that is something i have been worried about. Ive just joined a stunting forum to ask for their opinions.

At the end of the day, if it blows up it blows up, but I'm going to have a lot of fun in the process.

Bring on the rolling burnouts...

surely its a pretty simple job to move the oil strainer to the back of the sump? you probably dont even have to drop the engine to get the sump off.

I wouldn't of said "a lot". Unless your stunting doesnt involve wheelies.

Ive heard horror stories of SV650s, NC30s etc all going bang through long wheelies. Laughing

High pressure oil pump and the pick up moved to the back of the sump should sort things out.

Failing that, Do what Keith does, Just put fuck loads of oil in it! Laughing

Just a quick update regarding the bike. Engine oil and oil filter has now been replaced with some nice 10w/40 oil. The colour of the old oil amazed me, it must have been changed at its last service; about 5 years ago. I've overfilled the oil slightly to allow for wheelies without starving the engine (I could have moved the oil pickup to the rear of the sump but I am lazy). New HH rated sintered pads have now arrived and are awaiting fitment. I just need to get some new brake fluid and get round to it. The airbox/ airfilter have now been cleaned and have been fitted back onto the bike. Carbs look fine and thus need no work at the present time (may get them balanced later) as the bike seems to be running fine. Compression is also fine so no worries there either. Looks like the old girl has plenty of life in her yet.

Frame is now black and rearsets have been modified to stop them folding up in an event of a crash. Fairing is now partially army green and now absent of all stickers that lurked underneath the old paint. The rear tail unit has been modified with fibreglass to give it a cleaner look. Downpipes have been sprayed with high temp paint and now look a thousand times better.

I managed to break the white plastic throttle cable holder whilst removing it from the bike. I have ordered a new one but it's a bit of a pain. Nevermind, lesson learnt.

Thats pretty much it to be honest, apart from general cleaning up of wheels, sprockets, chain etc. She is now sitting in my garage as just a rolling chassis with engine feeling sorry for herself. I still have the rest of the fairing to finish, fork seals/oil and the electrics to mess around with.

No pictures as of yet, as my sister managed to break my camera phone a few days ago. Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I've decided I am going to repair it (just needs fork seals and general cleaning up) and then sell it. Then put the money plus more of my own in something a little lighter and stunt that. I bought the bike with haste as it was local and the right price. It looks so much better now and will get some piccies up when it is rebuild.

Its now sitting in the garage with no front end and i got half way though removing the forks when I was called into work.

Thanks for the replies.
