should i get my leg checked?

about 2 weeks ago i came off my bike on the way to an exam, was a low speed spill and i flew off the bike and cracked my right leg off the footpeg.

got up and got back on the bike and carried on to college to sit my exam, leg was in agony but if i missed it i'd get no grade.

now its two weeks later and i still got a lump on my shin and a small bruise on it, the lump definatly feels like a bit of bone and not just swelling but it doesnt hurt unless i put a lot of pressure on it.

should i get it checked out? should i go to the doctors first (easier for me to get to) or just go straight to the hospital? or am i just being a wuss?

In most probablity your GP will say go to A&E for an X-Ray, so that's what I'd do; just pick a not-busy time.
I've had similar with myself (dodgy feeling shoulder, though not much swelling or lumps) and other people (swelling on hand, etc) who've resisted, then been eventually convinced - 90% of them have been broken.

For the sake of a few hours of your time, it's worth the 'risk' I reckon. Be aware that if you ride your bike there, they'll probably say you can't ride it back, if it's broken.
As your GP can't be too sure it's broken, he's less likely to say you can't ride your bike if he thinks it might be.

Go and see the GP, even though they can sometimes get it wrong, I was walking around with a broken humerous for 2 weeks because they thought it was just ligament damage and just gave me a sling. I went back 2 weeks later as it was still hurting and they X-rayed me. Surprisingly the bone was almost broken, I guess it had been broken and just started to knit back together in the 2 weeks I had it in a sling.

Get it checked out. My sister fell off her push bike and the woman in the house that she fell off in front of was a nurse and said it was not broken. About 2 weeks later it was still hurting so she went to the hospital and it was broke and was in plaster for a few months.

I was jumping from from these wooden posts things before when I was a kid (on the way to see my nan at hospital ironically) and I slipped and fell straight onto my shin. Didn't get it checked out and now you can feel a dent in the bone and no hair grows on the bit I fell on.

I've actually read the thread now, and I have something to add. Do you have any proof you were in an accident on the day of your exam? Did you tell anyone? Witnesses?

Reason I ask is you can get extra marks for various things like family members dying, going to hospital, being involved in a road accident.

I think me and my mates worked out once that you could get a scrape a grade A in a subject "just" by being in a car accident that left your parents and sibling dead, and you in hospital for a brief spell on the morning of your exam. All you'd have to do is write your name on the paper.

well iv'e phoned the gp, the soonest i can get seen to is on monday next week which is what i expected but can sit about in the gp and hope someone doesnt turn up tomorrow i guess.

Erm, they are unlikely to let you drive home either - so either way you'd need to get your vehicle collected by someone else to be legal.

some people can walk arround on broken ankles legs ect for days, weeks and months at a time without realising and some people have gone into hospital after breaking a bone to find out that they had broken anonther one many years before without even knowing about it, so it is definately worth getting it looked at, by either your GP who may be able to refer you to a fracture clinic (dependant on ther servises in your area) or the simplest, easyest and quickest way is just to pop down to A and E minor treatment and let them have a poke at it

Usualy a broken bone will be sore and tender to touch, there may be a noticable ammount of swelling on the skins surface or just below the skin may be slightly off colour, bruising should ocur as its your bodys natural protection, normaly there will be a pain, but that is not always the case it is worth bearing in mind thatif it is on the front of the shin then there is little and restricted blood flow between the skin and the bone so any injurys may take longer to heal than other parts of your body.

If it is broken there are many things they may try to fix it, ranging from full length on cast and pins (highly unlikely if youve had it 2 weeks and been walking on it) to simply offering you calcium tablets, but its all down to the doctor and the x ray.

so go get it checked out at A and E and see what the doctor says

When i crashed into a taxi, i had a what felt like a chunk missing out of my shin, and it was numb.
The 'missing chunk' is still there but the feeling is slowly comming back 3 years on.

Yea, can't stop you, thus the comment 'to be legal' .

Only problem really if you have an accident or the police stop you are decide to investigate if you look obviously injured.

Also, if you're put in a cast or something, it might be inconvenient .
