Where does this go, its technically a bike but has 4 wheels Confused

Anyway, mods move where-ever!

So i am going to Kos in July, thinking of hireing a quad.

Do i need to take my licence? Does it come under bike/car (i have both so doesn't really matter)? Anyone done it, what does it cost? Are lids provided?

Thanks
Mike

They are pretty cheap just depends where you go/how long you want it for, lids are provided but its not law to wear them and if you want to pass out from the heat then dont wear them no real need the quads over there only do about 30-40mph from what ive seen.

I beileve they come under bike lisence but id take both just incase.

Hope this helps.

Jay.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Problem is my friends only have a car licence, they'd need to be able to hire them too!

It depends where you'll be riding them and for how long. In the UAE I paid £17 for an hour of endless desert on a 250cc.

I gave them money, they gave me a quad. They know if you don't bring it back, you run out of petrol and die out in the desert Laughing

I expect you're wanting to hire for the road though?

Yes for the road, just to get about, more fun than a car and dont fancy a scooter/motorbike out there.

Sorry to sound like an idiot but what is UAE, do you mean the dubai region or is that a region in kos?

To drive a quad, you need a Full Car license.

Its the same as if you were in the UK.

we hired a buggy thing in Crete this year, required a driving license.

some random bloke asked how we got it, and if we needed a license as he was refused for not having one.

i'd take it with you regardless.

also go early, the quads at our resort we being offered for 35euros a WEEK, which is silly cheap IMO.

(watch for the insurance though)

mate mate mate.......

firstly u will never pay what they advertise as the cost..especially as there are a few of them hiring them....haggle like fuck then haggle some more this bloke wants ur business

secondly someone said it is not law to wear a helmet....let me assure you it is...not everyone does and most people will never get stopped..but if u do its an on the spot fine of about 40 quid...best to carry helmet with you even if not wearing it..some sound policia might not fine u then....

lastly just my own personal experiance.....i have worked in kos, malia, ayia napa, corfu and rhodes.....all of these places i never had a license, car or bike as i was banned at this point....at all places I hired quads, mopeds, 250cc motorbikes and those little road cart things u get and never had a problem...just said i forgot to bring my license....might have something to do with me being a worker but might piont being there are ways around things

anyway just my 2 cents have a good hols......

oh and check ur hols insurance covers u (obviously it wont cover ur friends if they get one without a license)....as i have witnessed a few people have huge difficulties after being in an accident.....

most importantly have a wicked hols and get laid loads bbbrrrapppp!!!!!!

I've been to Kos twice in the last three years, and as long as you have a full bike or car license you can hire a quad. You can even hire one of those raptor buggy things if you have your full bike licence, and they're way more fun!

You must wear a helmet which they will provide you. Don't risk it and not wear one. Sure there's never any police about but is it worth ruining your holiday by getting in trouble?

I stayed in Kefalos, and all the hire shops around there wont let you hire anything unless they see your licence and write down your details. We tried doing it without my boyfriends licence because it was back at the hotel and couldn't be bothered to walk back, but we weren't getting a quad without it!

Where about's will you be staying on the island? Very Happy

Sorry, going slightly off topic from the quad stuff now!

If you get a chance visit the Lido Water Park while you're in Kos! It's in Mastichari, you can get there quite cheap by taxi or there are always coach trips there because it's so popular. It's a really good day out! Clicky!

They do loads of bar crawls around Kos town as well if you like that sort of thing. They're normally lead by your rep so ask what nights they have theirs!

Thumbs Up

You need Cat B1 on your licence to ride a quad bike. You get this if you pass a car test or a motorcycle test before 1997.

Hope this helps

Fitzy, my boyfriend passed his test in 2001 and we rented a 50cc quad, a 250cc raptor and a DT125 all on his licence.

The Cat B1 thing doesn't matter, or at least not in Greece. They just want a full licence.

I once hired a quad in the Philippines.

I was given a helmet, but I didn't need to show my licence and there was no registration or insurance... When I asked about this, the hirer just said,
"It's Ok, you're a foreigner -Dollars will be fine." Wink

I had a great time ridng on and off-road around the jungle and made a quick getaway when I saw a Police car just after filling up with petrol.
