Arai Chaser Vs. Shoei XR1000

after a new decent helmet and tossing up between the 2 above, are they pretty similar in features, quality etc is it just down to personal preference?

Doubt the fit is the same - Arai are an 'ok' fit for me, but generally Shoei are better.
So, unless they fit you exactly the same, get the one that fits the best.

I've just bought the XR1000 (with cheek pads changed to fit better too), but that's cos the Arai don't fit me as a make!

Got to be on fit - lurvley peeps at Crescent helped on that!!

I would get the Arai purely because I don't fit Shoei's at all.

Neither have fully removable liners. You need to try them both on fit. The XR1000 is a very light lid and has got very effective vents. The arai on the other hand has a very quick visor change mechanism. Both have double d retention straps so you're OK with that. Having said that, i've owned and still use the Arai Corsair and Shoei XR1000 and both of them needed fiddling about with padding thickness to get the ideal fit, but the arai was slightly closer. But seeing that i clinched a bargain with the shoei at the bmf 2 years ago, i decide why not. Both good helmets so it's got to be down to fit.

If you go with the Arai, do yourself a favor and get a spare set of matching side pods ordered up. Its looking like its going to take almost a month to get a proper replacement for mine, thankfully I managed to get a clear one for the time being.

same with me for side pods. That is my only fault with my Arai, they seem to be a bit flimsy. Luckily for me, the Arai distro centre (pheonix) is just down the road from me and a guy hand delivered them to me from there had to have a clear one on for about 3 weeks til they got mine.

Chaser is a rather noisy lid, leaves my ears ringing a little after a really long ride.

Incredibly comfortable though, and if you see an Arai tent at a bike show, head over and get your lid looked at.

Got mine refitted to my melon for free! He padded out the cheekpads (instead of just selling me a bigger pair for £23) and put a bit of padding at the back of my neck. Only thing i regret is that i didn't spend more and get a Corsair.

I went for the xr1000 for fit, i found it way comfier than any others i tried, not bad for price either
