Ok, so im coming into a small village. Parked cars and driving cars all mixed up. Im following a ford focus and 2 other cars pull into gaps to let us pass. As we are going through, he jams his brakes on for no apparent reason and because im accelrating (50cc) trying to keep up, I have to brake really hard and my front wheel locks and I almost go into a car by the side of the road.

I was about 1 car length behind him when this happened and as soon as he had stopped, he started again as there was no problem.

Just wondering should I have spoken to him etc etc or should I just take it as everyday biking stuff?

he may have seen a hazard that you could not, with him being further up the road, his breaking may have been pre-emptive of a hazard or because of a developing hazard, or he/she may have just been a crap driver. always drive like everyone else is an idiot and leave yourself room to manoeuvre.

Giev yourself a bit more room next time, they might have been driving shit but anything could make someone brake like that

id been following the car for about 3 miles and he was dead slow, wanted to overtake but didn't get a decent oppurtunity.

I was that close because other cars were waiting and I didn't want to have to stop and start again.

He was the sort of driver that when he was on a main road (60mph limit) he was going 40 and every time he went over 40, he braked which is ok for safety by this was for 3 miles and for him to just brake like that seemed a bit wank.

Next time ill stay back a bit. I think you can tell what some people are like by the way they drive.

If you ever decied to tailgate again always do it near the corner of a car. If they slam their brakes on and you don't have time to stop you can always swerve and ride past them. Better than having a collision.

Best thing to do is not tailgate though

I could have overtaken him twice but decided not to because it was not safe in my opinion.

I wasn't tailgating in the sense you are thinking of, it was just for the few seconds while I tried to get through the little gap.

You were too close. Do a search on here for "tailgating".

Many drivers (and riders) will put their brakes on as a warning if they feel the vehicle behind is too close. I've even done it myself on occasion.

Take it as a lesson learned, and leave a bit more space next time. At least you are OK.

Ive been watching a lot closer now as I don't want anything like it to happen although its bound to, the one time you just edge a bit too close.

I find 2 seconds at 40-50mph not long enough so im gonna say 3
