Floating discs

I've had someone round to look at the bike as a favour, and one thing he mentioned was my front discs.

Now he said that they (looked seized? cannae remember properly) and I should do something involving WD40 a nut and a bolt?

I thought that all a floating disc was was a disc with circular separators to allow the portion of the disc acted on by the pads to expand at a different rate to the inner portion.

Hi

The are meant to float to allow the disk to move to stay parallel with the pads even when it warms up.

If they stick it is likely to be like having a warped disk.

The discs may have just seized with road crud.

Get a nut and bolt just under the size of the hole in the floating part, put a washer each side and then tighten the nut and bolt up tight.

Now with a socket or spanner the size that fits the bolt try to turn the bolt, DONT use WD40 or oil to act as a lubricant, use brake or clutch cleaner. Once the bolt moves the small disc you can work it loose by using more cleaner wilst turning the disc.

Perform this task on all the small discs and that should return the disc to it's floating status. If it does'nt work your looking at warpred discs as prevously mentioned.

Thanks for your help.

Have done one of my discs (all the little circular things are turning when I get the bolt in, no awful screechy noises or anything) but it doesn't change anything with the disc.

Hope it isn't warped.
