TT600 wont start... relays?

hello ive just joined the forum to seek advise on my TT600.

its just developed a fault. when I try to start it a relay under the seat just clicks and the starter doesnt turn, also the horn wont work .. the battery is charged, ive checked for bad earths on wiring, switches, etc,..I have put power to the starter and it spins over but doesnt fire ( i did have the petrol tank disconected though).I have checked all the fuses, took the ignition switch off everything is dry and well greased..where do I look next.....................frustration is setting in...cheers....

Check that the relay connections are clean.Sand them and cables and
any washers that may be there.

When the relay clicks or you try the horn do any of the lights on the dash go out?

just tried jumping with a car battery no luck....yes the headlights go out when trying to start it....? is a new relay required? ive eliminated the battery...

Have you checked the starter relay fuse? It's usually actually in the relay.

If the fuse is fine, bridge the starter relay with a big screwdriver, if it starts cranking then the relay is knackered, replace it. Can't explain why the horn doesn't work, it's not connected to the starter circuit, so if the fuse for that is fine then maybe one of the spade connectors has come off or a wire is broken.

I have put power to the starter via a lead from the battery I will bridge the starter like you said...apparently the clutch switch and the horn share the same earth. so ive been informed..

Then it's worth checking that earthing wire, however if the relay is clicking when you push the starter it would indicate that power is reaching it properly, to rule out the trigger wiring to the relay (the starter switch), earth the one side of the relay trigger and put a live onto the other side (only small amount of power here so any old wire will do), if the relay then activates properly it'd mean the live wiring to/from the starter switch and down to the relay trigger terminal or the earth from the relay trigger terminal is bad.

Hello all.

Still having starting probs withmy 2000 TT600.

it just clicks at the relay and doesnt turn over..Ive bridged the starter motor and it turns over.. ive put a new soleniod on its got a new battery ive checked the earths..any ideas? thanks in advance.

I think you have a faulty ground somewhere. That can cause all sorts of weird things to happen.

Run a jump lead directly from the engine to the negative terminal on the battery, then try again.

If the starter is turning then the main earth lead from the starter(engine) to the negative is fine, that's not the problem.

Read my last post, as it's most likely the wiring from the starter switch to the starter relay.
