no we are not supposed to use the bus lanes, the £80 fine applies to us as much as it does to cars... but that dont mean we cant use the bus lanes Smile

You CAN use most but you need to check the blue signs next to the lanes. (Look for bike picture).
Some are OK for bikes - others only at certain times.

i.e. (In Bristol) Bath Road no problem except (7-10am I think) and most in the centre but NOT the bus 'area' in the very centre by Hippodrome. Police WILL pull you there. (I've been pulled there twice). Just plead ignorance, look very sorry and they let you off.

Only prob I get with using Bus Lanes is the bloody cagers don't look into it before turning left. (Or at least they look but are looking for buses not some hooligan barreling down at 80!)

<gets back on topic Smile >
I have been told that Reading was a trial area which allowed bikes to use *all* bus lanes... haven't got round to checking with the police to confirm it though.

Ok then...I think that I'll stick to the proper roads for the time being Razz

I feel a little embarrassed for asking this Embarassed but here goes...(it's a kinda general riding tip request)...ahem...take this situation:
I filter through some rush-hour traffic and get to some traffic lights (where I have to stop), I will need to turn right at these lights...do I stay alongside the car in front, try to out-accelerate it as soon as the lights change (I would prefer NOT to do this! especially considering that my NSR is still restricted...), or perhaps hope that some considerate driver will let me filter in...?

Just look for the blue signs next to Bus Lanes - they tell you what you can/can't do and any time restrictions. Honest!! Trust me.

As for filtering - it's one of those things you pick up with experience. I tend to go through to the front and move slightly forward of the cars, partly blocking them. But sod's law dictates the light will change with you a few cars from the front so take it easy!

While you're getting used to yer bike I'd give filtering a miss for while - you'll live longer. Oh and NEVER trust car's indicating (or lack of). Watch the driver's face and their wheels steering.

And why feel silly fro asking such questions? What else is the forum for if not advice?

Cheers Chris...and I think that I will give filtering a miss until I get confident with the bike (it seems a lot bigger than when I saw it in the showroom!)
