Hi
I'm sure this has been covered before but buggered if I can find it.
Basically thinking of getting a daytime MOT on the M6 for shits and giggles, but want to know the requirements.
Thought I'd post here before I nag a MOT garage.

Hi
Difficult. There is no such thing as a Daytime MOT, it is just doing lots of fiddles that a careful reading of the MOT books makes legal.
The MOT will have an advisory about the lights, but technically that would not stop it being ridden at night (though they would do you for other things).
Basically the rear position light is the one that makes most of the others compulsory. Omit that and you can, with a friendly MOT tester, read the rules that you can avoid having the other lights.
All the best

Search for 'daylight mot' without the quotes.
As far as I can tell you need a horn, rear reflector and an exhaust not marked 'not for road use' (although the rules on that may have changed anyhow as it's now by how much noise). Some testers insist on a rear brake light. You might have to travel to find a tester willing to do it as well.

hmm, interesting.
My track bike has a V5 and shortly will have road legal tyres however it doesnt have any lights. could be interesting, would certainly be handy to be able to test ride it on a decent ride to clear it out before getting to the track and finding out it isnt running right!
Will it matter that the speedo is disconnected and covered up? and the bike has no stand.... ____________________ Current : '08 Yamaha FZ1s

also, if u have the switch gears for indicators lights etc, u must have them on your bike.
I got my old 7r thru with just the horn, numberplate, reflector and speedo.
Did put a brake light on afterwards after complaints from my mates. ____________________ 04 zx10r with mods - 187.4bhp at the wheel! :o |

There is a garage in Peterborough that will do it with just a horn when I asked (as long as it actually MOT worthy!). I can provide details for anyone who wants it, he is very reasonable! ____________________ NC30 + Bandit 6
