FZR400 - 1987

Was running fine, now wont crank.

Fuses all check ok (the smal block of 4 and also the main 30amp fuse).

Battery charged up good.

Lights and indicators, horn works ok, too.

WHAT can i check voltage wise etc? When i press the start button, the relays click like they are energising, but no start?

What is the mothodical approach to solving this, is was starting fine last night...... (only just bought it)

cheers

Starter solenoid corrosion or failure? the ignition box clicks but the bike just doesn't crack as it should just after that.

Check the connections and the fuse on the start solenoid, it looks like this https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KAWASAKI-ZX6R-G-STARTER-SOLENOID-s87_W0QQitemZ260165233337QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116, is usuall under the seat or rear tail fairing and covered in rubber sheath. Also a worn battery (charged up ok or no) 'can' give this problem (edit the fzr one may look like this https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-FZR400-Exup-3TJ-1990-G-Starter-Solenoid_W0QQitemZ270232440377QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116)

Clicks but wont start, Get a volt meter across your battery mate. if the voltage is high like 12V+ then a little lower when u try an start it see if a new relay will sort it out, but the one in the link am not sure will work cos thats for a 3TJ which is a few models down the line see, but it may well be the same. Best to check an see.

the startr reelay was ok. All i did was jump off the starter with a think wire and in started fine. then, checked the 12v switched wire into the solenoid, which was ok........ meaning, aas i pressed the start button it gave the sol. a feed...... turns out the end of that wire was nearly hanging off and not giving good contact... replaced the small fitting and is now starting fine, thanks for the advice, it was priceless.....

regards.
