just wondering, i have a 04 cbf500 and it rides fine as long as i dont go past half throttle. if i do it is like kangaroo petrol, jerky, back off its fine again, cant do more than 70 and it eats petrol.

i have replaced the carbs, the problem is still there, i was thinking cdi knackered, but if the timing was not advancing it would cause the engine to pink.

battery knackered, the bike starts ok.

bad earth, taken the coils off and cleaned all the contacts and still to find new earths to clean.

Any way my bike has carbs, and the fuel cock is regulated by vacuum. is there a diaphgram in the fuel cock that has broken down which is letting more petrol through th the carbs, which in turn giving me kangaroo petrol on more than half throttle?

all advice welcome

When was the air filter last changed.
It could be flooding if the filter is restricting the air flow which would be the cause of it using more fuel.

Paddy.

If the rubber bit was holed or broken down it would be a lot harder to start, or would leak fuel when stopped.
Certainly would not effect high throttle openings.

+1 for air filter and also is there a fuel filter that could be clogged up.
Take the plugs out and check them all for colour.
You sure its runing on all cyls.

the bike starts ok every time, no need to use the choke. i cant smell petrol when its stood, so i don't think it has a leak. the air filter was renewed about 7-8 weeks ago (i ran it without the air filter and the fault was still there). it is running on both cylinders, i have just started it and checked both exhaust down pipes, both red hot.
i have just renewed the ht leads and spark plugs and cleaned the coils up and the fault is still there. i have just tested the battery, 12.6v and when running 14.4v. when we get some more dry weather i will check the coils for resistance and to see if i can find any more earths that are hiding.

Might be the immobiliser not liking the high-revs vibes, if you have one.
