Hey all,

Got a telling off from some security guard w**ker at work today, when I ride home out of work, I take the route draw on my map (in blue) and in effect cut across the lane and go between the bollards, and then drive out. Apparently is this bad because I'm going the wrong way in a 'one way' system, which they seem to think is a roundabout! It's a private road, so I don't think traffic laws apply, I don't think I'm doing anything wrong and I'm pretty sure I'm not gong the wrong way in a one way system!

I sure as hell don't see the point in riding all the way around. I always look, and don't pull out on people.

I've been told if I do this again, I'll be banned from taking my bike in!

Don't you just hate it when you get an earful from some tosser who thinks he has authority?

In short, is there some way I can tell him to pi$$ off by quoting some traffic laws? Laughing

Sorry, weird post but they annoy me, and are plain jealous that I ride a nice sparkly bike. Twisted Evil

Thanks,

Matt

Yeah, I prolly should ignore him, but I'm not sure if they're empty threats of not. If I were to get banned they'd prolly clamp my bike if I were to take it in. The security are the Southampton Dock types, just sit in a booth all day scrathing their arses.

Ignore him.

But anyway - if the road has access to public roads, which I presume it does, then normal traffic rules apply. That means car parks too. I think T.C. said that in one of his posts.

I'd say that you shouldn't really ride through the bollards. If that were a public road you could probably get 'done' for it, but as it's a private road I don't reckon there is anything that could legally be done about it, but if you had an accident and someone else was involved, they would probably have a good case for suing you!

Maybe, I think he got annoyed because I drove across the one way lane, I'm not going the wrong way because I'm not going against the arrow. I'm pretty sure you can drive across one way roads.

Oh, and it's not connected to a public road, it's private dock road outside.

Too much effort all together, i'd just razz it out the IN.

Seriously though, tell him to shuv it, i mean, say you've looked into it, and the reason there are bollards there, is so you and the cyclists can do just that, other wise the car park designers would have put a fence instead of bollards, wouldn't they?

Does it really require you to ask us if it's "wrong" to cut across a one way system through some bollards to get to the exit quickly. They don't put bollards up for the fun of it. And going round the whole huge car park that it looks must be so frustrating... Rolling Eyes

You're in the wrong.

Just turn left then do a U turn after the bollards. Or ride round the carpark like everyone else.

As most people have said - you are in the wrong.

How long does it take to ride around the car park?

You're in the wrong.

But meh, I'd keep doing it anyway.

If he complains more, use that carpark as your rolling burnout practice area Razz

And your map-drawing skills astound me. Why are you here when the world is in dire need of your talents? Razz

Well, if they are a security guard for the area you are riding in and it's not a public road, I would have thought they /are/ the law.

Seeing that you are riding on someone else's land, it's up to them to make the rules generally. If they don't want you on it, then it's also up to them.

You could try talking to someone more superior and see what they say, but in the end, if they consider it a matter of safety, they will probably always be cautious.

Better to get some knee down, wheelie, stoppy or burnout practice in Razz.
