Oh dear, now we're gonna have all the kids that mummy and daddy bought cbr125s for trying to tune their bikes up to 25hp... which I doubt actually is very near a true 'rear wheel' figure either.
Meh, they shoulda just got MZ250 racers Smile... about the same power, less weight and probably about a tenth the cost Smile.

25bhp? Sounds highly suspect too me? Honda probably gave them a load to use, because no one is buying the bike or something, they must have made some sort of deal.

Hi

Well, 25hp means 200bhp/litre. That would be pretty good going for a BSB racer, let alone a crude little 2 valve sohc engine.

All the best

NSR's make that though don't they? Although granted, they are strokers...

You are. Smile

They have 4-stroke 2-valve SOHC engines.

If peple can tune 50cc peds to do 90mph is it really so hard to belive that a company with the expertise and financial muscle of honda couldnt tune a 125 4 stroke?

Ron Haslam isn't an engine tuners. They're a race school. I doubt they've even tuned them at all. Neutral

And yes, it is hard to believe IMHO. A 2 stroke ped is much easier to tune due to the nature of a 2 stroke engine.

As far as i know haslam race school, uses honda bikes, because they have some kind of deal going, theres no other reason why they would evan consider the cbr? as G said there are cheaper bikes out there that are probably easier to tune etc

I would expect Honda supply them for free, as people will be more inclinded to buy a Honda is thier theory after using one on the race school.

Most likely, TWO did stress the power was claimed only, but they seem to think the race school has a good little bike there Laughing

RiDE said that they contacted Honda, who said that the engine could be tuned to 25bhp, but this was too complex to consider for the average user.

It can be done then.

Hi

Suspect the easiest way to get 25hp out of a CBR125 is to replace the engine. I doubt there is any way that you could get that much power out of it with it still a 125 with a 2 valve head. Even if it was tuned to the same level as an RCV GP bike it would still only be producing around 30hp. Tuned to the same level as a new R1 it would manage about 21.5hp.

Honda claiming the engine can be tuned to 25hp is about as accurate as the average Nova boi claiming their car leaves any bike behind off the lights.

All the best

Keith

would adding 2 more valves still be considered tuning? would that not make a huge difference?

Hi

Going to a 4 valve head would make a difference, but not a massive one. Maybe 10%~15% at a guess. A GPX250 or ZZR250 has 2 125cc 4 valve cylinders, and they make around 30~35hp, so expect around half that for a 4 valve 125 single.

All the best

Keith

I know 4 strokes are more reliable then strokers even after tuning but why would they want to do that, the bikes will likely be thrashed (by kids to boot!) and I can't see them lasting that long anyway, especially the fairings.

I don't see why they would tune it up, it's not like it going a bit faster will help teach people to race. It's about technique not speed. And they might have got a good deal off honda but is it really better then buying a load of old but reliable 2nd hand small 4 stroke bikes? I think the wheelie schools do the same thing.
