London congestion charge WTF? UPDATE! WINNER!!!!

Erm I have just had a bill through my door from some nice people in london. Seems i owe some money for travelling through their fair city.

Trouble is, A Ive never been there on this motorbike and B I didnt think bikes got charged.

It seems as though someone has copied my numberplate.

*awaits numerous speeding tickets and parking fines*

How the fook do I sort this out??????

EDIT:- My V5 has only just come back from the DVLA (8 weeks for an adress change) I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

0845 900 1234. Call this number to get hold of tfl/congestion charging and see what the score is.

Then contact the Police and possibly DVLA.

Edit: Dont bother calling that number, apparently "Please note Representations against Penalty Charge Notices cannot be accepted by phone or fax."

Sounds like someone's copied your plates and is having a jolly at your expense.

Make sure you report it. It happened to me on my car and they used the plates on their car to go and commit bloody armed robbery!

Right after 2 1/4 hours on the phone the results are thus:-

Ive got to send an appeal in writing to the congestion charge people.

The police are not interested whatsoever as no crime has yet taken place, it coult be " a simple mistake"

In the mean time im guilty untill i prove myself inncent!

This is another one of those stories that makes my blood boil

Why should it be on you to prove that you are innocent - all you should do is simply phone them up and tell them to contact the DVLA and see whether their records match the vehicle that went through the congestion zone!

These people that run these systems should remember they are civil servants - serving us, the general public - not the other bloody way round!! Grrrrr!!!!

It's only in criminal law you are innocent until proven guilty. In many other aspects of the law the opposite is true. In health&safety law for example you must prove you didn't do something wrong, and you do not have the right to remain silent in a HSE interview either.

When i got fined the other year (forgot to pay and back then they wouldn't let you pay the next day) they sent a photo with the fine.

Bikes are exempt from congestion charge, more than likely it'll be a car in the photo/cctv. Either way all its all a load of sweaty bollocks, sounds like a pretty open and shut case to me filled with unneccesary paperwork.

I'd ignore it then wait for them to send a fine and then proceed to let them take you to court, get a good lawyer in the mean time.

Make them look stupid and get some money out of them for costs and wasting your time, note down all travel costs and every phonecall/stamp you use so you can reclaim it.

I got sent a fine a year or so ago for being caught on camera using a bus lane near newcastle, like 200 miles from me. The picture on the letter didnt even show a bike just a car Rang them up complaining apprantly someone screwed up and took the registration number down wrong, still waiting for my letter of apology

Well its taken a few months but its finally sorted.

The picture they sent me was of a ford escort with my plate on it! I sent a letter stating the numberplate in question was regestered to a motorbike and not a car.

They replied saying that they had reviewed the case and that the fine still stood and had gone up as I hadnt paid in time.

One letter from my solicitor later and i get a grovelling apology from the CONgestion charge people!

What a bunch of twats they are.

If you have paid for a solicitor and not been re embursed your an utter twunt and deserve to be cloned should have let it run its course and then in court show the beak the proof and any/all expenses ,HE would then have made an ORDER for you to be paid
