 |
|
I stopped using my bike to commute when I started my new job a few months back because I need to take a toolbox to work with me, But I'm really started to miss riding into work and the ring road traffic is getting ridiculous.
I was just wondering if anybody else has managed to carry a toolbox on the back of there bike? or if it would be possible.
My toolbox is a bit like this type, about 20" long.

Its fairly heavy so I don't think bungees would hold it in place, I was thinking of using some kind of ratchet strap??
I don't have a rack or anything and I don't think they make one for an FZR4. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

im a spark and all my tools live in my removable top box:D
handy as a couple of clips and the whole top box is away,
i have in the past made a rack on the back and fitted a tool box, but removing and refitting was a pain in the arse, and wasn't lockable like the top box i have on the bike now, ____________________ the humans are dead

bcf is mostly uk ppl so he wouldnt buying from a place that has prices in dollars, and they are pretty pricey as an alternative to strapping his toolbox to his bike. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

Renntec do sports racks for the FZR6. How similar are the two bikes?
I generally find there isn't much you can't attach to a bike with bungees.
I'd suggest putting some of that rubber matting on the pillion seat to stop it slipping about and using four bungees. Two passing over it at the same side and two crossed over the top.
This configuration will hold most things.
Don't buy crap bungees. Army issue ones are really good if there is an army surplus store near you. Very powerful. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Have you thought os the Renntec sports rack.
I know they're a few pennies but maybe worth having a look. Also not sure if one will fit your bike. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Cheers for the help, might look into the spare pillion seat idea as there only about £10 on ebay.
I'd like a rack or topbox, I'm not sure how different the FZR600 is but they look a bit bigger in size so I don't think it would fit.
Strapping it to the seat with bungees would be the cheapest and most simple option, but Its just the time and hassle of strapping it down added with putting all my gear on. Sometimes I'll work at a couple of different locations over the day which would mean loading my bike up and unloading it all the time.
Will probably get rid of my car altogether soon, so I might look into getting one of those big super scooters that carry two full face helmets under the seat, then I could just sling my toolbox under the seat.
Can't leave my tools at work as I'm a trainee plumber so work is wherever I happen to be sent that day, sometimes I could leave them in a workmates van but it would depend If I'm working with the same guy two days in a row. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj
