What is a garage for the purposes of bike insurance?

I've been trying to get a quote for classic motorcycle insurance but it always complains that I must keep the bike in a garage over night to be applicable for classic insurance.

I don't have a garage in the normal sense of a large building made out of brick or stone with a big sliding door on the front.

But I do have a shed made out of wood that was purpose built for storing a bike and I would imagine just as difficuilt to get into as your typical garage door.

1 a building used to keep cars

2 a place where cars are repaired and petrol is sold

I could fit a small car in there :p

You'd need to phone and ask, insurance rate a garage as a building with three brick walls, mine's classed as garaged but it's in the kitchen...To me it's the same difference...

Very much doubt a shed can classify as a garage,
its more of the structure made out of bricks that concerns the insurance company as wood can be cut straight through while brick garages are a tad harder to do so.

Most of the time when on the phone to insurance they specify 'Brick Built Garage'.

As far as insurance people are concerned... A garage is a garage, and a shed is a shed.

If they specify garage, they might accept a shed, but the only way to find out is to ask. But as G says, usually when they specify they mean a brick built or concrete garage.

I had a shed built of timber off two brick walls of my property, with a metal roof. They asked me if it had a solid concrete floor or not. I answered 'yes', and they accepted it.

If you call your 'shed' a garage then its a garage, the only time I can see the insurance company getting upset about it is if your bike is nicked out of your shed, er I mean garage

if your happy that its safe in there why worry?
