Desperate for Help...

Well as some of you may have seen on my last post, My Girlfriends car got broken into last weekend and in the boot was my Helmets, Boots, Gloves and keys.

What I didnt realise is that I only have the one key for my lock which was with the keys taken.

I have spoken to a few shops for the best way to remove it and they have all said "Take an Angle Grinder to it!!"

Is this the best (or only) way to remove it or is there another option. And if not does anyone have an angle grinder I can borrow?? Or no of a place that I can borrow one from.

The other option is to take the wheel of and take it to my Brother's Fire Station and get the to get it off with the cutter they use to take car roof's off with.

Could try getting a locksmith out to it - but that will cost ya.

Just unbolt the ignition and take it to a few key places and one should be able to cut you a key for the lock.

Sorry Scoob,

It's not the ignition I lost the key for, it's the Chain lock I have around the Front Wheel.

I have a spare for the ignition but not for the Chain&Lock.

It's a Ludo Disc lock with a chain as well.

The lock isn't on the disc (luckily) otherwise I would be screwed!!

Ahhh, you'll be able to angle grind it or maybe even hacksaw it then mate.

I was going to suggest a car jack if it was a u lock, is it not cuttable with bolt cutters?

Well I don't think a Car Jack would work, and I asked the guys at my local bike shop if bolt cutters or a hacksaw would work but he just said that most bike chains are made from steel and that neither would work.

I will give it a go with the hack saw, but if that fails does anybody know where to hire an Angle grinder from and how much it would cost??

Any way to remove the front wheel? Then you could take that into a bike shop or somewhere similar and they'll probably cut it for you for a fiver or something.

Just type in Angle Grinders in the search.

There are a few of these around, it'll give you some kind of idea of costs, it's not expensive though.

Not sure how much it would cost to hire an angle grinder for a day. I would just take the wheel off and take it to the fire bobby station and get them to snip it off with the jaws of life.

Would be quicker than an angle grinder and wont cost.

Think I paid £20 for my angle grinder from Wickes. It should not be difficult to get one for that much, or less.

if you don't fancy using an angle grinder, you can hire a cutoff saw/ abrasive wheel. It is essentially a big angle grinder, but it will clamp the chain for you and will cut it easier (and safer).

Just go down to B&Q or Homebase or somewhere like that and get one for like £20.

As said above, angle grinders are very cheap nowadays, going for as little as £10, then a disc will be £1 or so.
