As the title suggests, I have got a xs750 for pretty much nothing, it runs and only really needs tyres pumping up and the rear brake bleeding.

What do people think I should do to it? bobber? hardtail? One problem with it is that it's shaft drive.

Here's the tank

I took the carbs off to give them a clean but they pretty damn clean so i didn't strip them further.

But yeah, what should i do with it?

Joe

Hi

If it runs without any carbs then sell it back to Yamaha for millions.

Don't think they are worth that much (and they had a few mechanical nasties), but it looks basically sound so could be interesting to put back to good stock condition.

All the best

Keith

Problem? Read absolute bonus.

Shafts = win.

Chains = fail.

Shafts don't need cleaning every 500 miles.
Shafts don't need oiling every 500 miles.
Shafts don't need replacing every 10,000 miles.

So they sap a tiny bit more power, and weigh a bit more, and a slightly more complex, but really, chains are the most ridiculous method of transferring power to the rear wheels of road bikes.

I would go for a semi restore to usable spec, then hack about on it until it becomes a rat.

It's already on its way, why fight what it truly wants to become??

Oh I completly understand the usefulness of shaft drive, the draw back from it in this case is making the frame a hard tail. I've just found a cool(ish) looking bobber xs750 on youtube which has given me some ideas on how to make the rear sit nice and low. I'm not going to restore it as I wouldn't be happy with it unil it is perfect (and I don't want to spend that much on it)

So far I'm thinking matt black (not a rat bike mind) chopped and lowered rear end, straight bars, forks through yokes a little and then heat wrapped down pipes and exchange the muffler.

What do you think?

sounds good.

Also don't worry about hard tailing a shaftie, no problems as long as you don't hard tail it so low you cause undue stress on the linkages.
