It doesn't make sense...
The middle between 600 and 1000 is 800. Why aren't 750s 800s?

A lot of engines are +/- though.

Look at the Kawasaki 636, Fireblade 929, VFR 800 (Actually nearer to 750)

It's the 600 that's the odd one out. Always used to be 125 then 250 then 500 then 750.

It was the cc limit for Superbike racing for many years - 750cc for 4s, 1000cc for twins.

In my opinion people focus too much on CC size.

If you look at bikes historically, be it 10, 20 or 50 years, the developments which have made the most difference to speed, safety, comfort etc. have not been engine sizes or power.

Tyres, suspension, brakes, chassis materials are all things which have contributed as much if not more to the development of bikes as we know today.

Hi

600cc is pretty much a pint, although as a class has only been around for about 20 years since the GPZ600. Before that there were a load of 550s, quite a few of which started life as bored out 500s.

All the best

Keith

...and similarly there are bikes like the ZX-6R (636cc) and the Triumph 675 which have been bored out to compete with the higher power 600cc bikes.
