PostPosted: 10:42 - 17 Jul 2008    Post subject: Suzuki Zillion?? Reply with quote

Hi.

I'm new here, and I'm pretty new to biking, thus need advice, and I hope I popped into the right place.

Basically I need to get a 50cc bike, under £400 that works and can take me and my girlfriend comfortably.

At the moment, I'm looking at getting a Suzuki Zillion as I found one under £400, however I'm not sure about it.

Has anyone else had a Zillion? Know about them etc. I'm finding it hard to find any information about it, apart from two reviews, both of them say its good but one says don't take a pillion passenger cause its "not build for it"

Any advice you can give me would be great.

Thanks

"me and my girlfriend "

Implying that you will be carrying a pillion, you will therefore need a full license

And if you are getting a full license, you would want something more than 50cc.

Yeah, it will be carrying two 99% of the time.

As for licence, I have a full car licence, and I spoke to the DVLA and various other people and its been confirmed that if you have a CBT and a full car licence, then you can carry people on a 50cc only.

Hence why the bike has to be 50cc as I can't afford / don't think its worth it to pay for the bike licence.

Why is it a 50 can't take people or what is your thoughts on the matter?

Well I know it sure as hell won't break any land speed records, but it will be faster than the bus... probably.

it will be cheaper than the bus Smile

Apart from speed issue, is there any reason why you shouldn't put two people on a 50cc. What would you say the weight limit should be for a 50cc?

Actually...... :p

Nah, just me (12 stone) and my girlfriend (9 stone)

I should think a bike could take a 21 stone man (or woman) although they may look somewhat.... odd lol

I was going to buy a mini with 850cc - it only just qualified for the motorway. Smile
And I'll only give you some advice providing your intention isn't to do this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVjGW7cD5EM

Validating your catagory P, rare but yes... Once you complete a CBT then you can ride on the road with no learner restrictions.

To be within the terms of your licence the bike must

Have an engine capacity of no greater than 50cc, a maximum speed of no more than 31 mph (50 kph) and weight no more than 250kg.

However, as implied above, because of the size of the engine you will not be permitted on Motorways.

What makes you say that?

And, I don't think a 50cc could wheelie like that tbh, so I think she is safe... or is she Twisted Evil

If you have a full car licence, why not buy a nackered old car for your commuting and run it into the ground?

A 50cc with 21 stone on the back will be SLOW. By that I mean, you'd be quicker cycling.

I'd also imagine that unless it's a scooter, you'd be pretty unstable.

It's not safe.

I took a pillion on a CG125 once and it was a fooking liability, don't do it!

Personally, I think you'll be rather safe - you won't be going that fast to cause any damage. Oh, maybe some gravel imprint..

Well I have also taken a person many times on a 125cc (Yeah I know, no licence) and on a 50cc pizza bike

So, its not I'm worried that I won't be able to do it, but more is it bad for the bike as such.

More to the initial point of the post, anyone here know about these Zillions?

Dumb. A 30mph crash causes the same damage no matter what you come off

I've had gravel rash and a broken wrist from a 30mph drop.

Also to keep in mind, scooters have small wheels which are inheriently less stable than real sized wheels.

And yes a scooter will flick out from under a rider.

I've ridden a 50cc with someone on the back. Fast it was not, fun could still be had around town though.

A 50 with gears wouldnt be quite so slow as you could work the gears a bit, and it would be a bit better if the restrictors were to fall out. Make out of tin foil i swear Wink

I had about 25 stone on a 100cc 2t (RXS100) Hills where a real struggle, I personaly would never want to ride a 50 beacuse they are too unpowered let alone take a pillion too.

whys every one acting like it cant be done? he seems to know already its possible, we all know a 50cc will be slow with one person on it let alone two, but that doest mean its a big no no, if the bikes derestricted (if it aint god help you, or put up a sail and hope for a good wind Wink ), it can handel him and his 9stone girlfriend with ease, we were doing 3 and 4 people on one ped in corfu, and they drive insane compared to over here, hell yeah it was slow, but it got you from a to b quicker then walking (and cycling lol + less sweatytoo ), if you want to do it mate then do it, a bigger cc would be more idel but a 50 will manage if thats what you want

If you are serious about taking pillion on a 50cc then IMO look at something like a Vespa which maybe better seating for two.

Downside is may struggle to find one for the £400 budget.

A two-stroke would also give you a bit more uuumph (technical term) but would need a little more tlc than a 4-stroke.

Was thinking something like the LX50

Thank you sPiTfYa and Map.

I know you can take people on a 50, I have done it, but my real question was really will it break the bike if I do it all the time.

I mean, I did it all the time on a pizza bike, but I didn't care, it wasn't mine, and if it broke, well I just take another bike its no problem.

However this bike will be mine so I gotta look after it.

I used to take my mate everywhere when I owned my 125 Runner, and eventually it started to really rev high before it moved, it was like the belt was slipping or something, so I stopped taking him and it didn't get worse...

I'm not going to go on some epic journey up the A1, I just want it to get to college and back (12 miles) 4 days a week, and go shopping (ie her with a backpack on) every second day or something, but Tesco is only 5 mins drive away.

So, it would do about, a max of say 1500 miles a year with both of us on it...

Anyone have any idea on the MPG for a 50. Course it will be different with every bike, but roughly - with two people on it...
