I'd give him 9/10 for his "100mph overtaking and proceed to fly off car at 60 ft aerobatic quadruple head over feet somersault into the trees" manoeuver. Emmm...0/10 for staying alive and 10/10 for being a stupid bast*rd.
Joking aside, Poor sod, seems like a bad judgement of speed and distance on a straight road. What do ya think? Anyone been caught out like this and managed to get in just before death knocked on your lid?

Looks like a case of rideout oneup manship.
One guy gets overtaken by his mate, he then thinks, you arent better than me, and wants to keep up.
The problem with rideouts sometimes, is people are too concerned with the group than the road and other road users.
Bad overtake, with poor observation, but its really about ego and wanting to keep up.
Thats why some people do a rule of no overtaking on rideouts to avoid this kind of sillyness.
I've been on a few rideouts where there were some silly ego-driven overtakes, not recently fortunately.
One guy I used to ride with is now dead, and he was a bit into this kind of thing.
If you have one guy who rides fast, and can do so safely up front, the others have to try hard to keep up and sometimes take unnecessary risks.
I make a point of accepting my limitations and not trying to push myself.
People killing themselves is one thing, but it always hurts other people too, which makes it wrong. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

I think that probably explains it. I've found one showing what you are talking about, but between 2 mates instead of a group. 2 lads riding through the mountains...nice roads and lovely corners for a knee down...but...wet roads, high speed, trying to keep up with his mate...head on into another bike at a "combined" head to head speed of 150-200mph...instant death for both.
I think as he got further down the route the old "f*ck it, I'll show him" kicked in and that was that. Feel sorry for the guy riding on the right side of the road getting taken out. Poor bast*rds.

I feel sorry for the car driver, his life messed up by the Idiot on the bike. Sorry no sympathy when he rides like that.

But I don't think hand on heart I could say I've always had perfect overtake judgement skills, leading to a couple of brown pants, too close for comfort moments.
It seems a bit harsh to condemn the dead guy, he got carried away and died for his troubles, hopefully the car driver was unharmed.
But just not that close. |
Fair enough, but from the looks of that video, he clearly made no attempt to see what was coming.. It's not like the other guy suddenly sped up or anything.
I've only really had one close call where the car I was overtaking suddenly decided to slam down on the accelerator when I was just about to pull in and I was forced to stay in the oncoming traffic lane (was driving an old 400 so I didn't have the super power to just tuck in), and a truck was coming my way.. I had to slam the brakes and swerve in behind the car to dodge the truck. Heart was racing so much, but after it ended I can tell you I was really glad that in Switzerland we have mandatory manoeuvres test and stuff... Saved my life.
Anyway, in the video above that doesn't seem to be what happened, and any biker who fails to use basic observation skills needs to go back to school. Perhaps he did get carried away, but when travelling at high speeds, I'm sure most of us would be even more careful when overtaking, etc. Anyway, bit of a ramble, but just hate seeing this kind of thing happen.. The driver of the car will be scarred for life. |

And what do you do if this happens when overtaking?.....I have been in this situation before and it's definitely not a good place to be...a swift boot to the car door managed to get the driver to pull back in, but I was lucky. This poor bast*rd wasn't so lucky...It even looks like the car driver smashed into him on purpose if you ask me....what do ya think?
