I don't have any biker mates with an ounce of experience that I would normally just pick up on these things through conversation. There are a few more that I puzzle over but I can't remember at the mo.

gixxer (G-ixer or J-ixer)
Shoei (Show-i or Shoy)
hayabusa (Hi-a-busa or Hi-a-boosa)
Moto Guzzi (Goozi or Gootzy)
Arai (R-A or A-ray)

Personally,

J-ixer
Shoe-ee
Hi-a-boosa
Goozy or Gootzy - I'd say a 50/50 split on that one!

It is Gutsy. Does anyone ride them except old blokes? Had a go on a 750 earlier this week, it was a nice plodder but when I was told that it had cost £350 to replace a clutch (engine and box out of frame) I lost all interest.

Ditto

I thought the GSX-750R was meant to be an great bike (based solely based on on-line reviews I might add)?

Here's a couple for you

Cagiva

Mito

As for the original ones its definately a hard G like Git in Gixxer, Shoei is clearly shoe-ee, Arai is clearly Ar-eye, Hayabusa is clearly hi-ab oo-sar, and Moto Guzzi depends on who you're speaking to.

I'd imagine (but don't know for certain) that Guzzi is pronounced 'Goot-zi'

The 'zz' in Italian is usually pronounced as 't' - as in the way it is in Pizza...

Could be wrong though.

thanks Thumbs Up

any more buzz words that I can add to my 'Bluff your way through motorcycling" list? Older guys always seem to discuss cylinders and strokes etc. I'm doing my best learning about my er5 and can point to the big things, but ins & out of an engine is a bit of a giraffe's arse to me Laughing

Seriously? Admit how long you've had a licence and absorb what you can from the conversations around you.

If you try too hard and get caught out just end up looking stupid and other rides are likely to think you are a nob

Anyone seriously taking the piss after that is a cock and not worth bothering with.

Relax and enjoy yourself, it's supposed to be fun.
