First off welcome to the forum. Second yes they are trying to shaft you, don't pay anymore than £750 TPFT and thats in a rough area (I don't know what your area is like). Thirdly, look at some of the recent posts, or talk to G, and he'll tell you his website address which has loadsa insurance companies on you can try.

Ciao

You could consider an older bike there's been no significant differences for a while and it should bring it down a fair bit becasue the theft bit won't be so expensive to cover. Do you live in aparticularly bad area btw?

That's a damn good deal you got there Luke!...hmm...I don't think that you (wingchunal) can really match that too easily...

...another factor for such a high price is the fact that it's the most recent model...a "2001" or older model should be significantly cheaper to insure...

...and yes, they're ripping us all off...

Try these (numbers all on G's big list):
Bennetts, CIA Insurance, Telebikes

These seem to do quite good deals for young riders. There's no reason you should pay over £800 for TPFT.

While we're on the subject of insurance, would there be a vast difference in the price between a ZXR400 and a restricted ZX6R or even the new 636?

The short answer is: YES!...a 400 is group 12, whereas the new 636 is group 15!...I don't think that many insurance companies give a shit about restriction when dishing out premiums, but they seem to care very much when it comes to claims...hmm...

...besides, most accidents happen at relatively low speeds rather than at 160mph, so restriction is not really an issue...you still get the initial grunt...

...despite my constant piss-take of Stew and Rob for their ages, I quite envy them 'cos they can get cheaper insurance! Evil or Very Mad

quite a bit of the insurance is down to the likelyhood of your bike getting stolen - and are the thieving bastards going to care that it's restricted?

Thanks people,

I think it really just isnt realistic or practice to look to going straight up to a 600 then. I guess im destined for the 400! Which is not bad thing at all, and in fact would probably do me a favour in terms of riding.

Its just I was looking on clickquote.com and they werent quoting too much more for the ZX6R than the ZXR400, so I was hoping (probably in vain) that should I be able to get a semi-decent quote for the 400, the 600 wouldnt be drastically more, and there are a lot of cheap ZX6Rs floating about due to this new 636.

Was just a thought!
Couger.

If its a 600 ya want then Fazers, Monsters and SV's etc. are all fairly cheap to insure.

For me, 20, 2NCD TPFT on a these bikes aint mucch more than for a zxr4/vfr4.
