to be totally honest m8 , buy the bike you want aslong as its under a 650 Very Happy then get it fully restrticted . via the airbox ( note that bit) get the certificate that says its restricted , buy a second hand standard airbox , fit it then ride your bike to your hearts content , they cant tell its been derestricted unless then strip the airbox and if you crash the bike jsut throw the old airbox in and smile like you havent done anything Mr. Green Thumbs Up

1. restriction is done via carbs.
2. certificates have no legal standpoint.
3. if you crash a bike on an A2, its all/partly your fault and the police are called, the bike will be taken away and Dyno'd.
4. if you're riding on an A2 and a savvy copper sees you accelerating/riding faster than you should, you'll be pulled, nicked for riding with no license, no insurance, and your nice new bike will be taken away, dyno'd and then possibly scrapped.

IMO the best bikes for restricting are the SV650, VFR400 and CBR400RR.

your call.

true

true

wrong ive crashed it being my fault, police didnt even care, neithier did the women who looked at the producer

wrong, ive been caught doing a 60mph wheelie, in first gear, by a bike coper and all i got was 3 points for the wheelie, we both knew it wasnt restricted, didnt admit it, but he let me go anyway.

General list goes:

SV650
ER6
And then anything at or below 500cc, e.g. GS500

Most recommend against the cbr600/gsxr600 etc but some do it and are perfectly happy, especially since their restrictors tend to fall out, they really need to make better quality restrictors Rolling Eyes

SV650s. for £2k you can get something with low mileage on, in good condition. With a few basic mods and regular servicing you can get an indestructable bike which will lose £500 max in resale value.

Scottoiler, hugger, fenda extenda, R+G's and a tidy end can are more than enough.

forums.sv650.org for more info.

What you want to be looking at are bikes that make their torque at lower revs. Something like an r6 that needs revving wont feel as nice restricted as an sv650.
I'd be looking at v-twins, something like an sv650, ducati monster 600/695 or a parallel twin like a kawasaki er6.
Whats your budget, and what do you want from the bike?

Just because you got away with it doesn't mean the next person will. I know of two people who got done by means of dyno.

And I'd hardly call 3 points "letting you off." Wink

Nice bike, restricts nicely, a bit over priced for what it is though.

For the love of god don't do it! They are uncomfortable unreliable expensive to maintain, their only redeeming feature is the mental power band, which restriction would snuff out.

If your made of money, go for it Thumbs Up
Otherwise older bikes will take the restriction better than newer bikes as they are less peaky and have less power to begin with

Restricted RS250? Be better off with a destricted RS125.

Twins restrict well supposedly, they keep a lot of the torque and as we all know torque turns wheels whereas bhp just turns heads. However, if your going to derestrict it then an IL4 will be so much faster for a given capacity (at least in terms of 400cc and up).

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The sv650 seems a very popular suggestion however that i a bike im not keen on to be honest.

I could get my RS 125 de-resricted but i would rather get a larger bike restricted.

I also want all legal as i dont want to take any chances with my licence so the suggestions of replacing things etc to make look restricted im not one bit interested.

Is there many CBR 400`s around then?

RS125 de-restricted would be pointless as they aren't technically legal de-restricted for 33bhp under the 25kw bit. CBR400 are fine but to find a good condition one is almost impossible and with 400's become hen's teeth i wouldn't bother. Thought about the GT650R by Hyosung? other than that what about the new ninja 250?

Restricted bikes i've ridden include CB500 and CBF600sa. My mates have had a restricted sv650s and restricted cbr600f.

The CB500 restricts REALLY nicely, feels like a full on bike and pulls aggressively as you take it towards the redline. In second gear, taking it close to the readline pulls hard enough to start sliding you backwards in your seat and the roar should put a smile on any 18yr olds face XD Probably not for much more than a year though, the novelty slowly wears off... It topped out at 92 downhill with no wind, so top speeds nothing to be proud of, but it won't get you points either Wink

The guy with the sv650s had the restrictors out within a week, they just took all the fun out of the bike - he complained nothing happened beyond 5k rpm... He said he managed 110mph with the restrictor but said it took him a godawful time to get there.

My current CBF600sa @ 33bhp is pretty damn fast considering it's only 33bhp, there's loads of torque going so riding with pillion is effortless although there isn't exactly a top end, you open the throttle 1/3rd of the way and it pulls away - opening the throttle further does bog all, you can pump the throttle open-closed after that point and absolutely nothing happens. I've had 93 out of it on the straight with no trouble at all (overtaking), it's probably good for over a ton if you've got patience (and the points on the license) to spare.

The guy with the cbr600f kept his restrictors in till his 2 years were up but he was the type of person who would pooter along at his own pace and enjoy the views. He said "it wasn't exactly fast but I was never in a situation where I needed something faster". He said he'd had 90 out of it too, surprising considering how he rides :o

De-restricted, I think the RS125's power to weight ratio is too big to ride on an A2 license...
