Hi

Harley is buying MV and Cagiva:-

https://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/mcn/2008/july/7-13/jul1108-harley-davidson-buys-mv-agusta/

Quite what this will mean for Buell and Cagiva I am not sure.

All the best

Keith

I was a little worried when I heard rumours of this.

However, it seems that they will be leaving CC as Chairman and Massimo Tamburini as Chief Designer/Engineer, so I'm hoping they will have a lot of autonomy and continue with projects that have stalled because of finances.

I'm looking forward to see if the small Triple F4 will finally see the light of day.

Yeah, I read this in the Times earlier at work, surprising. There was an Indian company interested at one point, I'm surprised an Amercian company has stepping in with the current economy.

Basically the same bike. Although think the Roadster might have been built by CZ (and there was a CZ badged derivative).

All the best

I think this will be a good thing for MV. Hopefully we might see them get into racing as I expect the Castiglioni boys are gagging for it. Hopefully Tamburini's drawing board will get some more attention too. Thumbs Up

I heard it was bought out lock stock and barrel for 100 million euros. HD have total control over the company. It's always a bit sad but the company was cash stricken and wasn't doing as well as they should have been. Hopefully the parts ordering will start up again as I'm waiting for a few bits!

It is a strange one! I can't see Harley utilising Italian designers or engines, generally Harley owners are notorious traditionalists. A lot of them don't even see the V-Rod as a proper Harley because it's watercooled. It must just be to try and turn Cagiva round and make some money out of it

It's rather ironic. Castiglioni essentially started his motorcycle business by buying the AMF-Harley Davidson in the late seventies and now Harley Davidson have bought it back (so to speak).

I think Cagiva may be a dying brand, which is sad, but the smart money would seem to be on developing MV Agusta further. It would be nice to see them competing more successfully on the race track and in the wider market.

It is probably cheaper than using Porsche to design their engines for them.

All the best
