He wont be going out side cos we live in a apartment, but want to get good cover for accidents and stuff.

Any views from the boys n girls at BCF?

There's good and bad points really, I would say it wasn't really needed if it isn't going to be going outside but then on the other hand it's always there incase of any illness.

Our two have gold cover for something like £6 a month each which seems to cover for everything possible and does help with peace of mind if anything ever does happen.

I did a bit of shopping around recently - mainly just by typing pet insurance into google - I think the cheapest I found was something like £7.99 for both of my moggies Smile

Good idea even being a house cat. We have 3 and one got ill and it cost us a fortune to sort him out.

If you're going to get pet insurance, do it now, because if the little one gets sick and needs some treatment for it, you could find that being exempted if you go for a policy in future.

Also check the terms of the policy - you'll probably find that the kitten needs to have all of its jabs up to date all of the time, and doubtless a yearly check up - all of that could prove expensive.

We have 5 cats here, don't think we have insurance on them because of the cost of keeping them all jabbed etc. They go along to the vet when they get sick, and thats it.

Also 4 of my cats hate the vet. One of them spends half her time there loving the vet, and the rest having to restrained by 3 of them. She can be extremely wriggly.

We have our insurance with Sainburys and have had it since they where weeks old. At first it was only cheap may by £4.50 each per month.

Got a letter the other week saying its going up £9.20 each per month! its a pure rip off!!

About the jabs, they have both been chopped and had the first lot of jabs for the first year but with them being house cats we have not bothered with booster jabs. Is it worth me asking Sainsbury's if they need them? Will they even know if we have to claim if they havent had them? We have changed vets since joining the plan.

I have my dog insured, that is £26 a month. I only got that last year as my dog was 'getting on' (8 years now, old for a weimie). A month ago he chopped the end of his tail off in a slamming door Sick

So that came in handy. £280 of work!!
His insurance is with petplan. They have a good rep. A lot of insurers (my bil's particularly, but can't recall name, fat lot of good I am!! Laughing

) renew each year and so you can't have the same illness claimed for in 2 consecutive years). A very complex baffling world is per insurance.

I don't have insurance for either of my cats. They are both getting older too. Today in fact my eldest (13 and a half years old) had his first piece of work, a dental clean, cost £160. But I figure it is a lot less than having paid insurance for the 13 years. He is a 'battler'. Goes out daily, fights (both dogs and cats), has had al sorts of scuffs, stays out for days.. you name it...

If the cat isn't going out I wouldn't bother at all.

Wished I hadn't been lazy when I insured my Collie. I put it off, then she decided to jump under a 4x4. Rolling Eyes

Luckily it was cheap to sort out. She insured now though.

Most cheap insurance companies start excluding problems/illnesses as they get older, so effectively, when they most need it, you lose a lot of the cover, often paying more for less cover.

Decent companies (NFU, Pet Plan, etc.) will keep the same level of cover through out their life.
