Whats the best grease to use? I heard a water based is the best, but having a quick look in the local car shop they dont seem to have any.

Is multi purpose grease fine?

i would double check this just in case, but i used castrol lm grease i got from halfords. wasnt hugely expensive and seems ok so...

but wait till someone co-signs this as i dont want to be responsible for seizing up your expensive back wheel!

Any lithium based grease should be fine for the bearings and the axle. Thumbs Up

Wouldn't go for water based greases ( Confused

). You want lithium based grease or moly based grease cos they're nice and water resistant.

Yeah that Castrol LM stuff is Lithium based. I've got a tub kicking around somewhere it's good stuff. Thumbs Up

Not sure where i heard water based greases from, but they did have lithium. Cheers!

Castrol LM should be plenty good enough. If you need it to be tougher then get yourself along to a boat yard and they'll sell tubs of grease intended for use in the propeller(s) and other parts which are underwater all the time.

I always use copper grease personally, not sure if that's bad or not?

Copper grease is to stop things seizing, put it on threads so that in a years time or longer you'll still be able to undo the bolt or on the back of brake pads to help prevent them making noise.

Copper grease is abrasive so not great for using to lubricate moving parts as over time it can cause wear. Don't think that it's abrasive enough to cause significant effects (or even noticeable until you start looking over a number of years) but IMO if you don't use it for lubricating moving parts then it can never be a problem.
